Police or security?[edit]

These edits Special:Diff/995021289/995029838 changed police to security. Officers' job titles were Aviation Security Officer, but they had police powers and were "sworn constables". Does anyone have evidence about what was the official term for the group? Pelagicmessages ) – (10:02 Sat 19, AEDT) 23:02, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there are two aspects to this: (a) was the official name "Isle of Man Airport Police"? (b) do we describe them as functionally a police force or a security force? Pelagicmessages ) – (10:09 Sat 19, AEDT) 23:09, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Naming of people involved in dismissal case[edit]

David Pownall and Paul Smith are mentioned prominently and repeatedly in the source article [1] with Brian Kelly and Charles Watterson also named. In these edits [2][3] Pownall's name was removed and the emphasis of the section was changed.

It seems a bit odd that Pownall was named in our article but not Smith. Similarly if Pownall's name is removed, then we should also anonymise Kelly. To name one witness but circumlocute around the identities of the main participants reads like whitewashing. Whilst the names are recorded publicly and by policy could be included, I’m also sensible of the concern that we not add undue attention to the people involved.

Yes, I agree. As per my edit notes I also find it weird to name Paul Smith. He's mentioned once in an article about an allegation and has not even been called by the tribunal to give evidence. As far as I'm concerned this person has not been convicted, it's a rather old case and the coverage is minimal (we're talking about only one local newspaper, there's no other perspective on this). I doubt this is of any public interest and think we should protect privacy here. AlanTheScientist (talk) 00:08, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
