Italians and Fishing[edit]

The most notable thing about Island Bay is its unique (for NZ) Italian population and their ties to the local fishing fleet. This is much more important than the note about the former racecourse.121.73.90.127 (talk) 08:35, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rita Angus[edit]

Rita Angus lived in Thorndon during her years in Wellington, I have removed her from the list of Former Island Bay residents unless of course someone finds a reference to her living in Island Bay for a significant time.121.73.90.127 (talk) 08:44, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Island Bay, New ZealandIsland Bay – This is the primary topic and Island Bay redirects here anyway. Adabow (talk) 06:01, 10 September 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 13:34, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. There are apparently several other places named Island Bay, eg. Island Bay, Ontario at www.mapcarta.com/24314264, Island Bay, Alaska [1], Island Bay, Palawan, Philippines at www.mapcarta.com/15766636, plus Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Apart from the last one, the other Island Bay places don't appear to have Wikipedia articles at present. However, I think it is best to leave this article name as it is. There is no significant disadvantage for users in the meantime of leaving things as they are. If a new article is created for one of these other Island Bay places, it is then only necessary to change the redirect page to a DAB.--Marshelec (talk) 19:49, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are other places called Island Bay but given they don't have articles at the moment, this article is the clear primary topic. It's the same reason London is named as it is, rather than London, United Kingdom. There are other places with the same name (eg London, Ontario) but one is the primary topic. • Oppose. for reasons outlined immediately above. Not moving will future-proof the page in anticipation of other Island Bays being created. Nauseous Man (talk) 21:49, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Primary topic. No need to concern ourselves with hypotheticals about non-existent articles that, even if created, would not necessarily render this no longer the primary topic. Nurg (talk) 08:57, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Primary topic. "Island Bay" already redirects here so there is no reason not to use that name over the current one. --Spekkios (talk) 23:13, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as the primary topic. Stuartyeates (talk) 10:57, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - clear primary topic. If the other instances of Island Bay around the world get articles and their stats reflect a contested primary topic then this can absolutely be revisited in the future. Turnagra (talk) 00:23, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
