Full review coming within seven days. IU is a prominent K-pop singer whose music I really enjoy. P.S. I'm also having a GAN for Girls' Generation. Simon (talk) 06:29, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • First read through: Nice article, great prose and comprehensive information. However the date formats are not appropriate, as American English is more prominent in South Korea than British English. Therefore, date formats should be changed from DMY to MDY (2 June 2011 → June 2, 2011), akin to other GAs/FAs of WP:Korea (Battle of Osan or Big Bang (South Korean band)). — Simon (talk) 06:34, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • @: Date formats has changed. By the way, I just saw your user page, you can speak Chinese, right? I'm a Chinese Wikipedian. --Qsx753698 (talk) 04:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks so much for fixing the date formats, I'm reviewing this article. @Qsx753698: By the way, I thought that Wikipedia was banned in China (sorry if that is impolite, though )? — Simon (talk) 05:06, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, Chinese Wikipedia has been banned since May 19, 2015 and I use proxy to connect. In addition, I can help fix some small problems for this article, but my English is not good, if you want a further improvement, you can talk with the main contributer User:Anolduser.--Qsx753698 (talk) 05:38, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay there are several issues I found in the lead...

  • The source for "spending the most number of weeks at No. 1 along with Psy's "Gangnam Style"" is missing.
  • Genres: K-pop → dubious as K-pop is a massive mix of various genres. Perhaps something more specific along with that genre, e.g. "pop" or "R&B"?
  • Where's the source for the "girl next door" image?
  • IU's third full-length album release, Modern Times, in 2013 → IU's third full- length album release, Modern Times (2013)...
  • "scoring two number-one albums and 14 number-one" : 14 → fourteen per WP:ORDINAL
  • all-time leader → this is an opinion so include in it quotation marks ("all-time leader")
  • Link Billboard
  • Link Korea K-Pop Hot 100

More to come. — Simon (talk) 12:53, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • "music charts" → again, this sounds too vague

Personally I do not think that the dates need to be changed, although Korea does use american English more, I do not think that the article needs to be reflective of it. looking at MOS:DATETIES, I don't think there's any strong national ties to American english. Also I believe that the reason why those articles you mentioned uses the american format is merely because the first major contributor decided to use it.

I have edited all of the things listed but the linking and the sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EquilLoL (talkcontribs) 05:30, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @EquilLoL: The lead seems fine now, but there are two remaining issues: the statement that "Good Day" was the longest-running single on the Gaon chart seems like OR as the sources cannot verify that fact, and the "KpopStarz" source is unreliable. — Simon (talk) 09:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

  • At an early age, IU became interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry and began attending acting classes → what age?
  • She started to attend auditions but failed all 20 → I would recommend "attend 20 auditions but failed all"  Done

2008-09[edit]

  • Italicise M! Countdown  Done
  • Any possible explanation why she was booed by the public for that debut performance?
  • Please specify that Lost and Found was an extended play  Done
  • "the lead promotional number" → sounds quite awkward
  • I changed to "the lead promotional single" — Simon (talk) 10:54, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • 80's → 1980s  Done
  • The source for the release of "You Know" is missing
  • The source needs to be added — Simon (talk) 10:54, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "extended-play album" → extended play or EP  Done
  • The YouTube source for "Marshmallow" is unreliable/OR  Done
  • Link rock and roll  Done
  • You use serial commas on previous sections so make sure to use that for the rest of the article
  • e.g. "with G.NA, Uee, Yubin, Heo Ga-yoon, and Jun Hyoseong" in early life section, but "such as Girls' Generation's "Gee", Super Junior's "Sorry, Sorry" and Big Bang's "Lies" in the 2008-09 section.

2010-11[edit]

  • number 12 → twelve per WP:ORDINAL  Done
  • "shot up to the number one position" → number-one position  Done
  • "extended play album" → again  Done
  • "Produced by Jo Yeong-cheol and Choi Gap-won" → source  Done
  • "reunited IU with lyricist Kim Eana and composer Lee Min-soo" → specify on which previous occasions IU worked with the two  Done
  • "longest-running number one song in the chart's history" → again this sounds quite like OR
  • Take this issue seriously. It would be preferable if third-party sources other than Gaon Chart be added to make a stronger statement of the song's longest-running no. one position. — Simon (talk) 10:56, 16 May 2016 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  • Serial comma issue again (M! Countdown, Music Bank and Inkigayo)  Done
  • This issue needs to be taken seriously too. — Simon (talk) 10:56, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "2-day shooting" → two-day shooting  Done
  • "2–3 hours" → two-three hours  Done
  • Perhaps naming some other co-actors/actresses on Dream High with IU (T-ara's Eunjung or 2PM's Taecyeon) is appropriate
  • "the number one position" → number-one position  Done
  • 'did well commercially" → performed well commercially  Done
  • Bailey Rae → who's she or where's she from, please make it clear — Simon (talk) 09:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Overall comments on prose[edit]

  • The career section is too extensive, try to mention only the most significant success of IU (the years 2012, 13, 14, 15 each has its own section, which makes the article lengthy and hard to follow)
  • Fandom section: sounds like some gossip content (of course, all singers/groups have their fanbase, but is this necessary?)
  • The common "Artisty" section for musical acts is missing. — Simon (talk) 09:06, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • I tried my best, sorry others issues I can't fix. --Qsx753698 (talk) 12:52, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would recommend merging 2013 and 2014 to "2013–14: First starring roles, Modern Times, and A Bookmark Flower" (omitting "collaborations" as it sounds superfluous) — Simon (talk) 10:58, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Second read through[edit]

Sorry for the delay owing to my personal solid schedule. Have you addressed my previous concerns (see above)? @EquilLoL:Simon (talk) 03:53, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I do not think that the we should merge the sections, it already only states the main things that she did while giving some explanations on why it is significant. I have already cut out what I believe are insignificant information. It would take major restructuring and I do not think I am capable of doing it. I will try to edit it over the course of the next few days. We can also let this article be a precedent on how career sections may be written haha. Equil(talk) 08:08, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Final comments[edit]

Overall this article looks great. But one thing I would like to recommend you to omit is the "fandom" thing, as it sounds like WP:FANCRUFT. And it would be great if the article sees the addition of "Impact" section, as IU has a high profile in Korea, as well as is one of the most controversial figures there. Other than that, the article is ready to go. — Simon (talk) 08:35, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As the final comments have not been addressed over a week, this GAN failed. If you want to re-nominate the article again, feel free to do so. — Simon (talk) 04:06, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
