"curved sharply towards the northwest late that day. A more sharper" - could you avoid saying "sharp" twice so soon after each other?

"All watches and warnings were discontinued on August 7 after Dot weakened below hurricane intensity" - isn't the bigger reason that Dot left the area, is why the warnings were dropped, not necessarily because of the decrease in winds?
