Page initiation[edit]

The text was composed by Harry E. Nursten, Emeritus Professor of Food Science, University of Reading specifically as a contribution to Wikipedia and was wikified by me. Sinclair's ideas about essential fatty acids were generally scorned when first propounded and may have impeded his academic advancement, but seem to have been vindicated by recent scientific findings. His work on the famine associated with World War II has some interesting twists. For example, he was instrumental in getting many children to take cod liver oil daily.
