History be damned[edit]

Why on earth does this need to redirect to the main page of Wikipedia? When a user comes here, surely they're looking for information on what a home page is?

All the users who are restoring the redirect are saying that it has a long history. That's the argument "That's how we've always done things around here". --Slashme (talk) 08:43, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

These links are retained to avoid breaking incoming links from external sites. That's not the same as "we have always done it that way". We don't, in fact, do it that way any more. The Wikipedia:Redirect guideline prescribes retaining these. How useful they still are after all this time I couldn't say, but if you want to change the policy, get the guideline changed. In any case, I don't think you should be changing the target of a camel case link. That is the same as creating a new camel case link and we certainly don't need any more of them. Thanks Spinningspark, I finally get the point: because we used to have a redirect from HomePage to the main page, we keep it for stability and convenience, but we would never create a CamelCase redirect today, so it makes no sense to break whatever links still exist out there just to create a pointless redirect from HomePage to Home Page. --Slashme (talk)
