REverted edits[edit]

I reverted a number of edits that were done today. The article is currently talking about the Hollinger Park. What makes it notable is that it is a park in the City of Timmins and it is named after Benny Hollinger. The fact that a baseball league plays in the park is common-sense. Details about this could be placed on a page of it's own although I don't think the article would survive long in wikipedia. --Renrenren 14:22, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the part about the baseball league because it is far more revelant to the park because we have been the main tenants of the park for more than 20 years. That fact alone is more important than a one-time event that in all likelihood will not be repeated. The park is not frequently used for concerts. It has been used for a total of four concerts in the last 25 years. Why would I have to create another page about Hollinger Park when one currently exists?

I was suggesting a page about the Standard Tavern baseball league. You're right about concerts. PErhaps it should be edited to say that is OCCASIONALLY has been used for concerts. You also keep editing the attendance number. Where are you getting the info about 20 000. I distinctly remember attendance being estimated at over 25 000. I'm trying to track down the actual newspaper articles to make it official and source this article. No, I am perfectly happy with mentioning the baseball league has been the park's longest tenured and most important tenant. The league has played hundreds of games at Hollinger Park over the last 22 summer seasons. The league is a far more significant tenant of the park, much more than a one time concert. As for the attendance number, I know personally that it was grossly over estimated...the number is actually under 20,000. I work in local media. Just got an email from Jack Watson, city clerk. They sold 20 000 tickets and gave away 1500. I've left it at 22 000 to reflect volunteers who ran beer garden, snack shacks, souvenirs, etc. --Renrenren 19:00, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know for a documented fact that it was the largest single event ever held in the park? You may assume that, however unless you have documented accounts that no other event held in Hollinger park rivalled the attendance of the Shania Twain concert, it is presumtuous to state so. I can tell you that the number of spectators that have witnessed baseball games over the years would dwarf the number of concert goers at Hollinger Park. In the days before television, the Hollinger Park Granstand was frequently filled with spectators for baseball. The most recent baseball event that filled the grandstand with approximately 2000 spectators was in 1991 for the All-Ontario Juvenile baseball championships, in which the local Timmins club won.

So in summtion, Hollinger Park is a baseball field, and not a concert venue.

Are you saying you've had over 20 000 people watching baseball? I think not. Even when they had stands at the south end of the park, the stands never held that many people. My email from Jack Watson says exactly what I posted. The park is a ball park, but it's only a soccer field, it's held BBQ`s, labour day events, school track meets. It's a multipurpose area. Obviously, you are a baseball fan.. obviously, you are involved with the Standard Tavern league, but the fact is, this facility and the history that surrounds it should be the primary focus of this article. No, what I wrote was that over the years, the number of people who have attended baseball games is significantly higher than the number of people who have attended concerts over the years. Hollinger Park is a baseball field that was sometimes used as a concert venue, amongst other events such as horse pulls, track and field meets, football and soccer games, and rodeos. You seem to want to place the spotlight on a one time event that in all likelihood will not be repeated, as our league has been assured that our field will be never be used as a concert venue again. The Shania Twain concert caused severe damage to our playing field in addition to disrupting our season for two weeks. The main usage of the south side of the park (and Granstand) has been baseball. The Hollinger Mine built the baseball diamond and football field for baseball and football games to be played. Yes, I am involved with the baseball league and I was greatly disturbed about a wikipedia article on Hollinger Park with no mention of the fact that it has a baseball diamond. The article was written as if the only event ever occuring there was a Shania Twain concert...for which Hollinger is certainly not "most famously" known for.

Please do not rely on newspaper articles for an accurante count of spectators, as they are often incorrect, especially when estimating the number of persons in a large crowd. You will never get the accurate number.

Do you work for Wikipedia or are you simply a super fan of Shania Twain?

I am a local resident, just like you. I did not create this article. It's simply one of the articles that I keep an eye on and watch out for edits... one of many. I agree with you that over the years, more people have probably watched baseball games than concerts. My job here as a wikipedian is simply to keep articles up to date and to ensure accuracy. If you read up the guidelines about on the page WP:FIVE, you will see what the pillars of wikipedia are. A newspaper article can be considered accurate according to wikipedia guidelines. In this case, I have an email from the City Clerk stating the information that we originally disputed which was the concert attendance. As it stands, I think the article is okay and I will keep trying to update it as time permits. --Renrenren 00:28, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
