Cleanup

Article looks cluttered, intro is too long, too many broken links, some sections should sub-sections based on size... Cbrown1023 15:42, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

"First comedy since Oliver and Company?"

The article states 1that this movie is the first major animated comedy from the Disney company since Oliver and Company. Well, maybe I'm being too picky, but doesn't Aladdin count as a comedy?

Indeed, but that's only one of the many, many problems with the article. In all honesty, just about every page for the Disney films are terrible, except for The Lion King and maybe Pocahontas. All of them need serious work, and I've already started fixing the pages for Aladdin and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I'll get to this one as soon as I can. Nqnpipnr 23:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, the cultural references can represent the comedy in the movie such as Hades saying, Zuesy, I'm home!''. and all the Hercules merchandise such as Air Herc. But also the film is mostly mythology. Now Aladdin could count as a comedy (though it's mostly fantasy) because Disney agreed with Robin Williams to make the genie a comical character. talk

Last fact in the trivia section

The last fact in the trivia section is about a reference to dance dance revolution, but the article on DDR says it wasn't introduced until 1998, and even then wasn't very widespread. It sounds like it might just be vandalism, but I'm not sure. Knowledgesmith 02:37, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

- I was thinking the same thing. It probably is just vandalism, either that or it's an odd reference to the TV show or a video game that features Hercules. ChrisRJ 11:03 PM PST, 27 January 2007

Athens/Athenian Minute??

Under "Pop-culture references" near the end of the page, it says "When Hercules arrives in Athens, he learns that things travel with the speed of an "Athenian minute", a play on the New York minute." I don't remember the words "Athenian minute" from the movie, but I do remember "Peloponnesian minute" from Meg's first conversation with Hades. Can anyone confirm this, and we'll change it? Zekintha 08:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right, it's not Athenian, it's Peloponnesian. And Hercules doesn't go to Athens he goes to Thebes. And Meg says that before they get to any city. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rglong (talkcontribs) 22:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC).

I removed a bad line

"Phil is to be portrayal of Pan in the fact that he helps out Hercules. However, he also shows characteristics of a satyr in the fact he is somewhat lazy. In myth, satyrs are known for chasing nymphs, drinking (etc.) Pan and satyrs can be commonly confused because they are very similar in appearance, which might have happened in the process of developing this movie. "

Not only is it poorly written, it doesn't make sense. Pan WAS a satyr in Greek mythology. And so is Phil in the movie, they say it explicitly.

Mythological Misrepresentation

I think we need to compile a list of the film's flagrant misrepresentations of canonical myth. It would probably make its own article. Tsunomaru 01:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Heres one

the origanl myth of Hecules is that he is the son of Zues and mortal Alcmena, but in the movie he is son of both Zues and Hera
another is that the way the movie spells the name from the Roman Hercules but in Greek it's Heracles. User:Neoshadow1billion 01:50, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Too much trivia!

I'm thinking of seriously cutting down on all the trivia listed in the "Trivia", "Anachronisms", and "Pop-culture references within the film" sections. Although some of the references and stuff are blatantly obvious, they're not backed by sources, which violates the "Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth" policy. Any thoughts on this before I remove all the trivial information? I'm normally bold in editing, but I don't want to delete content that makes up around 50% of the article's length without asking others' opinions first. --SilentAria talk 02:51, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I personally added most of the stuff in the Anachronisms section, but I've always hated the too-large trivia sections that spring up in entertainment articles (Of course, those are usually all I read, but still). If trivia points are unsourced, unnecessary, or stated elsewhere in the article (One time, a trivia section in a TV article was just a bullet-point recap of the plot synopsis section) then slice 'em out. Well, that or re-write, distribute throughout the article, and find sources where needed. Whichever. JBK405 03:03, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I normally do to trivia sections, but the thing is, most of them are stuff are unnecessary for the article...at least that's what I think. That's why I needed more opinions on the matter. :-| --SilentAria talk 03:35, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I would delete them all, but i feal retribution. if someone was to delete them all, i could watchlist patrol, as Trivia sections aren't good in wikipedia. Philbuck222 19:03, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:ScarinHercules2.jpg

Image:ScarinHercules2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Video Game

This film spawned an awesome PlayStation video game, yet there's no mentioning of it in the article. What gives? 58.7.68.42 (talk) 11:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Tidied

An editor seems to be slowly destroying this article (and many others) with find/replace changes, content being moved to the wrong sections and duplication. I've restored some sense to the article, particularly the production section, using the content as of this edit [1] which is far enough back that the rot hadn't set in. Theres a bunch of unsourced new content, but it only qualifies as trivia so I added that section, tagging it since it needs incorporated into the article if its going to be kept.

I'm with the editors above who think this article needs a trim, but it needed a wash first Bazzargh (talk) 19:58, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Heracles?

The intro to this article says something to the effect of "Hercules (known in the movie by his Roman name, Hercules)". In other words, Hercules, AKA Hercules. Was the first Hercules perhaps meant to be "Heracles", the original Greek name? PurpleChez (talk) 11:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Plot too long?

Doesn't anyone agree that the plot is way tooo long! I feel the plot is just telling everything. For example, the parenthesises. I had to edit most of them out and including the songs. Now, I don't mind if the plot is 600+ words. But I agree that the plot should be trimmed down a little. (talk)

Comparison with the original legend

It would be helpful to have a section in this article discussing how the film compares with the original legend. Kingturtle (talk) 17:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Zeus raping Alcheme?

Where does this come from? Zeus took on the form of Alcheme's husband in order to sleep with her, I hardly think he had to rape her in order to have sex with her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.150.47 (talk) 08:34, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

kingdom hearts

maybe there should be a part of the involvment this serie has in the kingdom hearts series? it is (along with alladin) the only world featured in all games, upcoming and current. the major final fantasy cameo's have appeared in it and it serves as a kind of "battle mode" for the games —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garfreeek (talkcontribs) 15:43, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

NO 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo at the very beginning of the film

This is the second 2D animated film to use NO 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo at the very beginning of the film, but however at the very beginning, we do see the Walt Disney Animation Studios logo from 2007 is shown, but at the very end of the movie, we see the short version of the 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo.
