Untitled[edit]

There is a song by Henry Thomas that is on several compilation albums [1] [2], which is always listed as "Jonah in the Wilderness." However, in the song, it sounds like he is singing "John" rather than Jonah, which would seemingly refer to John the Baptist.[3] [4] There is even a branch of the Episcopal Church called St. John in the Wilderness Epsicopal Church. Can anyone confirm the correct title of this song? --Phaeretic 17:53, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

delete two speculative sentences re: Bob Dylan which add nothing[edit]

Under "Legacy"

"Dylan may have been introduced to Thomas through Harry Smith's 1952 compilation Anthology of American Folk Music, which includes two of Thomas' songs, "Old Country Stomp" and "Fishing Blues". Dylan may have heard Thomas's song on the 1962 album Henry Thomas Sings the Texas Blues."

These should be deleted.

Also, as mentioned, Smith included two Thomas songs in his now-iconic anthology, released on Folkways Records (Smithsonian Folkways today). This is a big deal.

Yes, pop culture references always seem to win out. Perhaps we can fix this, if only occasionally.
