Featured Article[edit]

I nominate this article for featured article status. It's a perfect example of how a Wikipedia article should be written; highly-detailed, articulate, and not flowery or cumbersome. It is well-sourced, orderly, and makes for exciting but informative reading about a most intriguing period of French history.jeanne (talk) 16:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jeanne, if you want to put this article up for FAC, there's a special nomination process to go through here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. qp10qp (talk) 17:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'd like to put it up for nomination. I'll have a read of the procedure. I think Charlotte de Sauve should have her own article but I haven't got many references on her. Just the Mark Strage book Women of Power.jeanne (talk) 18:12, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have enough bits and pieces to make a small article on her, though it wasn't so high on my list.
One thing I'd better warn you about (I expect you know), FAC is a highly critical process (and so it should be). Some of the reviewers there would make PHDHistorian look like Mother Teresa of Calcutta. One needs to grow extra skins and and hold one's nerve. I think I have the books to answer most queries, and although the article wasn't intended as an FA, I daresay it could get there in the end! qp10qp (talk) 19:13, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Desperate Need For References and Sources[edit]

I disagree that this article has any salient worth. I do think it desperately needs to be documented as many of the assertions are farfetched and uncorroborated. As an example I submit that the article's assertion that Gabrielle d'Estrees died from a botched abortion requires documentation but is merely tacked on, without any supporting comment, evidence or reference. "During Holy Week, however, Gabrielle, who was pregnant at the time, fell ill; by Holy Saturday, to the relief of many in France, she was dead. Rumours flew that she had been poisoned, but in fact she died from an aborted pregnancy." If the goal here is to build an encyclopedia, then this sort of writing is regrettable and should be addressed. VaniNY

On the contrary, every word of this article is sourced. I've added a citation for the detail you mention, though the article states that she died from an aborted pregnancy not from a botched abortion. The colourful life of this king seems almost unbelievable at times, but I have made sure that everything in the article is to be found in the references listed, and I have left out the vast amount of rumour and nonsense that has been written on the subject. By all means list what you don't believe, and I will add the necessary citations.qp10qp (talk) 22:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
