Death because of appendix operation[edit]

According to the german wikipedia it isn't true that he died because of an appendix operation, he died because he starved. The soviet criminals put pressure on physician Dr. Schumann to declare that his death occured because of an operation, but he refused. 88.64.0.113 (talk) 02:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

German wikipedia says that he presumably died of starvation. At any rate, this is now being discussed in the German wikipedia talk page. Apparently (a) the version according to which a doctor was pressured is not known first-hand; (b) the widow states in her memoirs that she later spoke with a former prisoner who confirmed that H. George had appendicitis (caused or worsened by poor food preparation) and underwent a potentially life-saving operation; the operation was itself successful, but H. George then died of heart failure (something that had been considered a risk). So, not as simple as that. Feketekave (talk) 12:10, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
