The focus of this article?[edit]

I propose that the focus of this article shift from a current events focus to become the primary historical article on Health care reforms proposed during the Obama administration. Is there a consensus? Raggz (talk) 18:00, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Health care reforms proposed during the Obama administration be merged into Health care reform in the United States. I think that the content in the Health care reforms proposed during the Obama administration article can easily be explained in the context of Health care reform in the United States, and the Health care reform in the United States article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Health care reform in the United States will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. We might consider renaming this "Healthcare reform strategies in the U.S." Many of these have been around for a long time and I think this would focus the reader on the particular types of reform alternatives out there.Farcaster (talk) 01:19, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I could see going there eventually. Right now I think there's some benefit it keeping it focused on the Obama administration, because that allows us to use it as a place to put all the specific proposals that would otherwise clutter up the other articles. Ultimately, I wouldn't mind seeing a top-level "Healthcare reform strategies in the U.S." article that then linked to subarticles like this one that discussed the particular strategies that were under debate during different time periods. I do think that the specific menu of policy proposals in play has changed significantly over time. EastTN (talk) 17:28, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed "there's some benefit it keeping it focused on the Obama administration" because a lot of work went into these articles that has value, but only historically. Health care reform in the United States has a lot of work that is irrelevant to the present debate. A merger would allow the Reader to access this. Presently if a Reader in the 5th Grade is assigned this topic then the Reader needs a well-organized and current article. Might there be an upper-level article for the Obama Administration that refers to Health care reforms proposed during the Obama administration?

Preventative care[edit]

Is there a source for "Research suggests, however, that in most cases preventive care does not produce significant long-term cost savings."? I am removing it and replacing it with summaries of peer reviewed studies and official proposal scores which say otherwise. Paum89 (talk) 23:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see now it was an op-ed citing a study of cardiovascular preventative care from the 1980s, so I included the peer reviewed Canadian study, official government scores of universal coverage, and Nicholas Kristov's recent op-ed citing more recent studies of all preventative care. Cancer is where it really works: about half the population eventually gets cancer of one form or another. If you catch it at stage one, it's usually a few outpatient visits, but at stage three or four, it's more like $200,000 per month for months to years, often terminally. At that point "uninsured" effectively means "universal coverage by medical bankruptcy or death in debt" in the US. Paum89 (talk) 00:12, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
