There is no record that Hayelom Araya failed the national college entrance examination! In fact, Meles Zenawi described him as being a very wise political leader (above his brave military skills) at Hayelom Araya's eulogy. Therefore, I have removed the sentence, you may add it back if you find a citation for it.
