Editor notes from first AFD[edit]

This article is completely within the rules for article creation as I understand them. It is not intended to be promotional in any way whatsoever. It is exactly the same type of article as others already on Wikipedia, eg "Marilyn (hill)". The article describes a UK hill list which has been in existence since the early 1990s, published as a list then, and has been accepted as an authority by the Long Distance Walkers Association in the later 1990s. It was reviewed then by Country Walking magazine. It also benefited then from the advice of Alan Dawson, the creator of the Marilyn hill list, also compiled and published in exactly the same way as the Hardys hill list.MVO Rambler (talk) 20:16, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Following my inadvertent and innocent use of a user name apparently taken to be promotional in my first attempt at creating this article, I have changed my username exactly as advised. I have also avoided in this second attempt inclusion of any reference in the article which could in any inadvertent and innocent way be construed as promotional. So I have done exactly as advised and requested, yet it is still being considered for deletion - why? I can quite understand (and entirely agree with) the need to "police" article creation on Wikipedia, but surely not at the cost of excluding entirely valid and innocent contributions to the body of knowledge which Wikipedia represents. If "Marilyn (hill)" is valid, then I assert that so is "Hardy (hill)" - there is absolutely no difference between their notability.MVO Rambler (talk) 20:16, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Postscript: With the much-valued help and advice of the editor Franamax (and see below) I reviewed and revised the article and with further research added several third-party references to strengthen its notability. I hope it is now acceptable to the editor community.MVO Rambler (talk) 2 June 2011

Moving back to mainspace[edit]

Per the article creator's request, I am moving this back to mainspace for another run at the big time. The addition of a source from November 2010, which the creator notes here was a feature article, seems to satisfy the notability requirement, although of course opinions may differ on this. As noted above and elsewhere, the article creator is also the creator of the hill list itself, so obviously there is a direct personal relationship. However I have reviewed the article content and I find nothing promotional or unduly self-serving in nature. This looks (to me) like a topic worthy of inclusion in the encyclopedia. Thank you again Franamax, this time for your wikifying edits. I have also thanked Kerowyn for his final wikification of this article on 16th June.MVO Rambler (talk) 21:25, 30 June 2011 (UTC)MVO Rambler[reply]

List converted from categories[edit]

I have made a bare list from the former categories, per the consensus at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_September_17#Category:Hardys.

Interested editors including @Bermicourt: you are welcome to embellish the list with locations (county/island etc), convert it to a table with heights, etc. – Fayenatic London 10:20, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Completion[edit]

The article states there are 347 Hardys, including a 'Core' of 135, but the list only shows 86 hills. (40 English, 8 NI 18 Scotland and 20 Wales) What is the criterion for inclusion in this selective list and is there any plan for including the rest? This important because, since the list is incomplete, a reader (including myself) cannot know whether Snafell, Les Platons and Hautnez qualify as Hardys. Snaefell is on the Isle of Man which is not part of England (or the UK).-213.205.241.134 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 22:01, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that would explain why (for example) Sgùrr Alasdair on Skye isn't included, when it clearly fits the criteria, being the highest point on that island. Isn't there an official list available somewhere? It seems odd to include a partial list without even mentioning that it's incomplete. Freewheeling frankie (talk) 23:39, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

England?[edit]

The Channel Islands and Isle of Man are not part of England.
