Education[edit]

What is the relevance of the line "Offered a place at University of Glasgow law school, in his second year he realised that all twelve High Court Judges in Scotland were protestant men. "?

The second half of this sentence seems to be out of context in terms of the rest of the article. It is also cited without reference - did Hardeep Singh Kholi refer to this at some point?

I think this needs clarification or should be removed. Ukurko 08:49, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I meant that if the top positions in the country were solely in the gift of white Protestant men what chance would I have as a fat Sikh lad with a turban? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.214.219 (talk) 00:07, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you say 'I', does that mean you are Hardeep Singh Kohli himself then? Mutt Lunker 09:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"It's unfair to dump all the social and racial insecurity of television onto Meet the Magoons, which is just a comedy that has a lot going for it and might well evolve into something classic. But it isn't a sign of cultural pluralism. The Muslim, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities of Britain are still most likely to see themselves on screen in gritty dramas about arranged marriages, illegal immigration, domestic violence and racism. They have yet to be afforded the Kitemark of inclusive acceptance by being laughed at." _ AA Gill 21/08/2005 Times Review

The "modern classic" assertion of previous version is obviously therefore a misquote —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.67.232.191 (talk) 23:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a University of Glasgow graduate I can assure you this man's family is scum. They are the ultimate tyrants of the west end property magnates, and give all other landlords (mostly Asian) in the area a bad name. Furthermore, during the Elections for Rector his oh so shiny personality was shown up in the University of Glasgow Debating Chamber when he was overwhelmingly abused by the hostile crowd towards his property dealings and misleading public image. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.238.130.23 (talk) 02:19, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fail to see relevance or accuracy of "avant garde" description for Citizens, especially since the theatre's interpretations of Arthur Miller were conventional, unlike their reworkings of Shakespeare and modern novels such as Trainspotting —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.67.232.191 (talk) 23:21, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quite bizarre to list O-levels and highers results but not to mention university - either result or location - save "after graduating...". Can we assume the results weren't so great? Why not just say so? (I'm assuming Hardeep is involved in this page from use from of first person, above) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wislonabound (talkcontribs) 17:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sikhism[edit]

The personal life subsection states he said that he does not practice Sikhism. It is followed by a ref, but it does not state that. In any case, he habitually wears a Sikh turban, which secular Sikhs do not. I pointed out on the article the contradiction in stating he doesn't practise Sikhism, when he wears the most important symbol of the religion. My addition was then reverted, with the 'justification' that wearing what originated or may be regarded as a religious symbol does not make him religious. However, the truth is that a Sikh turban is always indicative of the wearer being a religious Sikh. It is not merely something which originated as a religious symbol; it is still one. It is not something which 'may be regarded' as a religious symbol - it is always a religious symbol. The part of the article about his Sikhism needs to be corrected. You are correct that the citation makes no mention of whether he is practising or not, so I have removed the ref and replaced it with a {{fact}} tag to indicate that the assertion must be cited or it can be removed, after a reasonable time.

In the edit summary for your earlier edit you refer to "his claim to be secular" so evidently were not at this stage challenging that the citation said this. So assuming the citation had said this, that makes it notable and verifiable and therefore valid for inclusion, whether or not it is true or makes sense ("The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth"). To challenge this, particularly as it is cited (again on the assumption that the citation was in fact correct), one can not add one's own personal opinion as this is original research and thus not valid for inclusion. If you had provided a reliable citation which specifically addresses the issue of Kohli's secularism/otherwise, that would have been fine.

To give an example, if Kohli states he was born on Mars, if a reliable citation is given, this is valid for inclusion. Kohli's assertion would appear dubious but simply stating this as a personal opinion, however reasonable, is not valid unless also cited.

I hope that is helpful. Mutt Lunker (talk) 11:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism[edit]

Why is his support for Scottish independence under 'criticism'? The other two entries are criticism of him, not by him.

Removing this claim about Byline Festival[edit]

Kohli was co-founder of the Byline Festival of independent journalism.[1]

The Huffington Post merely lists Kohli as performer not a co-founder
