Sewing?

Disregard
 – Wrong venue.

There is nothing about sewing. Where could i find something about sewing with a pattern or creating a skirt or other garnment for women?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.203.124.75 (talk) 10:43, September 8, 2002

Missing a few things

Disregard
 – Wrong venue.

Or painting or silk painting or basketmaking or embroidery or wood carving or flower arranging but bone carving is included.. anyway missing quite a few things.

Can anyone help before I extend the list by suggestion other limits on what handicraft is not? What does flower arranging come under for example? (talk)--BozMo 22:30, 7 May 2004 (UTC)

Flower arranging is part of interior decoration while embroidery has its own article and is an important part of Textile art wood carving can be one of the many variations of the Art of sculpture or simply a hobby, depending on who makes it and why. AlainV 02:43, 2004 May 8 (UTC)

Definition?

Resolved
 – Text clarified.

It says that produced by machine means it's not a handicraft? Interesting. You'd lose most of the list if that were applied. I feed raw material into a machine which I've set up for the job, and get out a beautiful functional object of my own design. Three machines here: electric spinning wheel; wood lathe; knitting machine. Are all or none of these Handicrafts? Technoloy? Art? Craft? Engineering? Domestic crafts? How practically useful is it to dissect such grey areas? AuntySue 15:20, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

You know what the sentence means. If the item is made entirely by a machine or an automated process it is not a handicraft. Please don't forget that all of the things you mention, can be done WITHOUT machines as well as with, so machines are not actually a necessity. Maybe the sentence should be more clear for people like you.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.186.142.137 (talk) 09:47, March 28, 2006
Gee, that was a rather uncivil reply, however I think the snippy anon actually has it right. Katr67 08:30, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Collage and Assemblage?

Resolved
 – Moot: Article makes no such distinction.

I'm sure a lot of collage and assemblage artists would be of the opinion that these two do not qualify as "craft" so much as "fine art." Jaye 16:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

The article does not make a bright-line distinction between them (nor does the real world), so this is a moot point. — SMcCandlish  Talk⇒ ɖכþ Contrib. 02:10, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Painting

Resolved
 – Question answered.

Please let me know does painting (done using colors eg: water color, oil colors etc on Canvas, Paper, etc) comes under handicraft. G nitin12 08:57, 13 January 2007 (UTC) Nitin

The line of distinction is blurred, but it comes down to what the artist does with the item (in this cas, a painting), and who you ask, unfortunately. The creation of "art" items for the sake of personal interest, perspective, philosophical inquery, or contribution to a collective thereof can be safely considered art, with few exceptions.

Art vs. craft

Stale
 – Articles in question do not draw such bright lines, and the project never launched.

What is the difference? There obviously is one: Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts in such a way that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of art.(from visual arts page). And is anyone interested in a Handicraft WikiRroject? If you are, please go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Craft Sorry about my terrible linking, I wasn't sure exactly how to do it, but that will take you straight there. Arts and Crafts

Resolved
 – Inclarity fixed with splits, cleanups and merges over the last 4.5 years.

Arts and Crafts is an isolated Movement. If anything handicraft should be merged with craft perhaps as a separate section depending on how "handicraft" is or can be differentiated. --Bradjohns (talk) 02:21, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Handicrafts is different

Resolved
 – Inclarity fixed with splits, cleanups and merges over the last 3.5 years.

Handicrafts in its meaning differs from Arts & crafts (which are more movement related). It signifies traditional produce of native/tribal populations of the world and hence cannot be merged with Arts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.178.168.47 (talk) 07:50, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Delete tools section

Resolved
 – Section removed without objection for over 4 years.

I'm not going to waltz in here and make a huge edit - IMO the tools section has no place here. It's tagged for editing and removing how-to, I'd say it's irrelevant. There's a hundred simple tools not included, too. The rest is pretty well done, if perhaps a little dense. The whole tools section is covered under tools or belongs there. Handicraft is supposed to be in the arts and crafts section

Disregard
 – Not applicable.

Even though I'm not pointing the obvious here, it's supposed to be in the arts and crafts section in Wikipedia. It's something we do out of our imagination and human work, right? So that's my reason. -student_school09- 13:56, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't have "sections". The article is properly categorized. — SMcCandlish  Talk⇒ ɖכþ Contrib. 02:10, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
