HOMLES 2[edit]

Hello, is it worth renaming this HOLMES 2 and doing a write on the original HOLMES? Im wondering if there is that much of a difference between the 2 systems. I refer to the original HOLMES in British Military Intelligence Systems in Northern Ireland. Thanks Fluffy999 18:43, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I worked on the original HOLMES system, for Burroughs Machines, the forerunner of Unisys. I am not familiar with HOLMES2, but knowing the technology available in 1985 and in 2000 respectively, in terms of storage, processing power and so on, it seems a fair bet that the two systems share little but their purpose. Note that the original system was entirely text-based, using green-on-black monitors ( Burroughs B20s), networked using the proprietary CTOS networked operating system. As far as I am aware, CTOS systems had been obsolete for a decade before HOLMES2 was completed.
I am going to nominate British Military Intelligence Systems in Northern Ireland for deletion; it lacks any citations, is badly written, and seems to rely on a single source, 'Geraghty', but without mentioning how one might set about finding out who 'Geraghty' is or verifying what 'Geraghty' said. Which brother?[edit]

Sounds like it was named more for Mycroft (the program's actions are more in Mycrofts line) than Sherlock. 206.116.119.130 (talk) 10:24, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
