who says...?

that world leader pretend is about the state of US politics or forgien policy? i've seen a lot of pages claiming to have knowledge of the author's mind and the lyrics' meaning but unless stipe is the one editing this page (or other authors editing other pages) people should refrain from interpreting song lyrics on an encyclopedic entry. 71.59.195.91 10:31, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

The trivia section has been integrated into the main body of the article. Two bullet points were left out.

• Although the title of the album is "Green", the cover artwork is orange in color. The reason for this is that, if one stares at the orange image for several seconds and then closes his eyes, the negative image he will then see on his eyelids is green. When viewed negatively in this manner, the cover art appears to depict green grass.

• In 1990, the band Green released an EP called R.E.M.

The first seams to be original research. In any case one would need to cite a member of the band specifically stating that this is why the album was orange (and on the contrary I seem to remember an interview circa Monster in which Michael states that he just happens to like the color and that's why it shows up on so many album covers.) The second bullet point is mildly interesting but has almost nothing to do with the album. The comment already appears in the article for the album R.E.M. by Green where it is more appropriate. Please stop the revert wars!

Hey! Between the two of you, you have edited over 10,000 pages; I have edited over 3500. As a disinterested observer, I am citing the unofficial "way too much time on our hands" doctrine: Let's compromise!
a) Dudesleeper is correct on the dating. The reason for this is very simple: for many years now release dates have standardized on Tuesdays in America and Mondays in other places. The difference of a single day is not worth this craziness.

• Proposed: We can use (as as has been the case elsewhere) one date with the UK release date and the second with the US one. You can even use cute little flag icons for them. (b) There are no explicit guidelines on how to incorporate an album article in a discography.
  
• Proposed: We add a second discography using this format, with the albums discography taking top spot, the chronological one the second:

Title Origin

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw somewhere that R.E.M. named this album "Green" as a stab against those who claimed that the band had sold out. "Green" is of course a reference to money, and the $10 million dollars the band would receive for their first album with Warner Brothers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MGrassi (talk • contribs) 13:46, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

My two cents I recall Stipe saying that it was a triple entendre between environmentalism, being young or fresh (the album being their first on a major label as well as a new start for the band), and cash (in reference to their massive contract.)
