Which Came First?

If you read carefully, the article says:

• "There are some drastic changes from the anime in order to..."

and a paragraph or two later it also says

• "It[the anime] was produced after the other two"

So which one was made in what order? Manga, Anime, Live Action? or Manga, Live Action, then Anime?

Yeah squilibob is correct - the manga came out first, and was so popular in Japan they made a live action based on it, and then the live action was so popular as well they made an anime as well....lol. Some of the weird facial expressions that Onizuka has that we see in the anime and not the mange are supposedly based on the live action Onizuka (Sorimachi) Dagari 12:04, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

So, what does this mean?: "The anime's episodes closely followed the manga's plot up to volume 14. However, by then the anime had reached the end of the manga's storyline which forced the anime to create a new ending."

I haven't seen all of the anime yet, I've only watched up to episode 28, but the manga has 25 volumes... how would reaching the end of volume 14 mean the anime was forced to make up a new ending? There were 11 more volumes! -- James Flewelling216.123.197.160 13:44, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

That statement refers to the fact that the anime was produced while the manga was still being serialized. When the anime's storyline caught up to the manga's (at volume 14), it ended with a different plot. So while there were 25 volumes, the other 11 volumes did not even exist yet. Too long

I agree the manga should get it's own article it was made first

I did not write the trivia section, but I am very impressed by it and think it's a definite keeper. Good job to the writers, and I do not think the article is too long. If anything, it's not long enough and more could be added. —Lowellian(reply) 19:23, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Generally trivia sections like that should be reorganized into proper sections in the article, when they're notable, or trimmed if they're not. There's a place for trivia, yes, but I think in this particular article there's too much in trivia that it ought to be consolidated into the article proper, if at all possible. I did some clean-up for this section as it looked like the worst fancruft list I've ever seen. I reorganized the list into types of references and removed some references that were just too detailed; however, it's in no way completely fixed. I need some input as to what direction this section should take and what kind of trivia is just too much. Yes, I liked the references too, but to put in every single one is pushing it. Miss Understanding on the Ending

I was wondering if someone could please explain the ending to me with in the anime? I have the full DVD set of the series but the ending preplexes me... he's being arressted then he runs away... and the next thing one knows he's in Cali. USA... wha?!! what happened between all that?

Sorry Just the weird part was,... the guy who got stabbed came to... he could have vouched for him that it was never Onizuka that did it... why run away to of all places Cali. when all he had to was wait through the process... thats what threw me off... thanks for the help.

--- From what I picked up about the ending, he ran away because he didn't want to go to jail -something I expected seeing, it IS Onizuka and he's not the type to get led away by the law so easily. Seito (the teacher who stabbed himself) would have confessed to his actions and to his relationship with the student thus clearing Onizuka and Miyabi. The entire truth would have been put out considering Holy Forest Academy is still up and running and it's jointly inferred that Miyabi is alright and back with the gang (said by Kikuchi on the final night of the Okinawa trip). For reasons why Onizuka moved to CA, not exactly sure, but it's likely he used the money he borrowed from Fuyutsuki to move (he was preparing this all along), not entirely based on him being arrested, but to move on in the mean time. For the most part, his job was done in gaining the respect and trust of his students and he moved onwards to another class to do the same. Though he's not done yet with Holy Forest as according to Mrs. Sakurai saying to Fuyutsuki that he'd return as long as she is still there. Of course, it's also implied that she may go and look for him in CA and bring him back, which is what I believe would happen and it's also likely Murai, Kanzaki, Kikushi and the gang will join her. Don't forget he basically has 3 women basically 'waiting' for him back in Japan: (in order of appearance): Mizuki, Fuyutsuki, Kanzaki.

Actually my interpretation (I haven't watched the series in a while but I'm pretty confident on my interpretation) he ran, to avoid the murder charge, but at no point was Onizuka in any position to hear of Seito's (the teacher who stabbed himself)recovery. Remember, he was being dragged away in handcuffs when he came through, and then Onizuka ran away as they were putting him in the vehicle, he didn't hear anything. And once he's started running, I doubt he'd have time to sit down and watch or read the news headlines. And once in Cali, it'd be pretty hard to actually find any news articles from Japan. List of GTO Episodes

I created a new article here to cleanup the article somewhat and provide a better format to provide some synopses for the episodes. However, since I didn't put anything in the edit summary, my recent edits were reverted as "idiotic vandalism". The table isn't complete, but right now, there's more content than what there is right now and it will be updated eventually. That being said, should the list right now stay in its own article or be update the current list to the table? Comments? Feedback? I like this series, but the article is in dire need of a cleanup. According to our guideline, you don't need to disambiguate if there is currently no need. If in the future the live-action episodes gets its list, then we would move it. Also, remember that a reader is more likely to search for "list of great teacher onizuka episodes" than "list of great teacher onizuka (anime) episodes". the live action pictures

I think that the two small pictures of Onizuka and Fuyutsuki are relatively unneccessary, unless some can be bothered to type up a whole list of every live action episode. Nonetheless, the article doesn't do enough justice to the GTO Live Action series. The existing stub is good, but I don't think sufficient enough. And why have that particular moment of Onizuka's face? He looks absolutely retarded. Dagari 12:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Just some thoughts

Just some thoughts to throw out there to make this article better:

• Make a page named "List of Great Teacher Onizuka media" for the Manga media table & the opening and ending songs of the anime.
• Make a section about the social issues that are covered in the Manga. This would give the some Out-of-universe perspective that is in the WP:WAF guideline. Some of this issues covered in the Manga are: Teenage suicide,Nervous breakdowns , Marital affairs, Bullying, Rape, Smuggling, Corruption,Student/Teacher Sexual relationships, Groping on trains,Accountability, ect...
• Maybe make a point that beside the main character, all the other characters are meant to be realistic.

manga summaries? possible GTO sequel?

I was wondering if possible, a short summary of each manga chapter is possible. I just finished reading all 25 volumes and I loved it so much I would like to read them all again. Perhaps I could type up a summary for each chapter and then maybe with the help of others, fine tweak it so that it doesn't spoil too much.

Also, I have heard rumors that Fujisawa is planning to make a sequel to GTO, though it may concentrate on principal uchiyamada. I found this rumor on the sentosha subforums, and the person who posted the information could only provide a link in French (was not asked for so was not given). Even though it could very well be a rumor, it could prove to be a useful tidbit to add to this article to either confirm or dispel this popular rumor.

Given the number of chapters in the manga (~200), that level of detail would be too much for the article. A volume summary might be feasible; however, even then, the summary can only be a couple sentences each. As for the possibility of a sequel, that would be good to include in the article if you have a reliable source. UnfriendlyFire 02:34, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

If you can get any legitimate sources to cite a possible sequel then it can be included. Adding any reports on false ones could end up perpetuating rumors. For now keep it under wraps until there's official news. Fox816 14:32, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Sequel? unsure of that, but I've heard about a Prequel that'll be released for it, based on Onizuka's youth and in the bike gang. Another reference to GTO

Largo, in Megatokyo? His students call him "great teacher Largo", and (like in the live action) he catches one of his students dating men. (Although he doesn't do anything about it, and is generally an idiot). Please do not undo the removal of the trivia, it's a perfectly valid and justified removal. Anyone who disagrees should readWp:Trivia. if anything it should have been removed sooner as it's been tagged for it for 18months. If you want trivia, please link to a external site containing it. None of the trivia holds any relevance in context of the article itself. I also suggest people find references for the statements already tagged as needing citations as they will be removed as well. Need info on reception

If anyone could hunt up information on the reception of GTO (manga/anime/film/tv drama) and create a reception section discussing it, that would be a great addition. I tried looking for a Newtype USA review of it, but unfortunately they have ceased publication in the USA and their english reviews (via the US website) are no longer available. Reliable Reviews for the manga and anime should be easy enough, the live action is an entirely different problem. I expect the best you could hope for with the Live action series is a reliable source for the viewing figures of the final ep (at the time it was the most watched tv program in japanese tv history). If you stick to the proper reviews and not the user reviews AnimeonDvd should have reviews of all the anime, and some if not all of the manga -Dandy Sephy (talk) 04:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
