The Trout[edit]

This article says The Trout is in Godstow. The Trout Inn says it's in Wolvercote. Everyone I know would say it was in Wolvercote. I propose to remove references to The Trout from this article.

In the absence of any objections, I went ahead and removed references to The Trout.

Godstow isn't a village as such; it is basically just the site of the abbey. That's why most of the article is about the abbey, and that is presumably the origin of the name ("God's church").

The Trout's website claims it is "in the heart of the picturesque town of Wolvercote", but that is not correct. It is 300 metres to the south-west of the beginning of the built-up area of Wolvercote, and more than that from the village centre. Neverthless Wolvercote is the nearest village, so on that basis it is not wrong to say it's in Wolvercote. However The Trout is closer than that to Godstow Bridge and Godstow Abbey, so it is certainly not wrong to say it's in Godstow, either. Therefore it is not unreasonable to mention The Trout in the Godstow article (especially in view of the lack of material in the Godstow article, other than on the Abbey). It is perhaps also relevant that most of The Trout's clientele comes from the city of Oxford rather than from Wolvercote.----Ehrenkater (talk) 12:58, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What Ehrenkater said. It's right by Godstow Bridge, and frequently referred to as "The Trout at Godstow" (e.g. https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/14028154.review-trout-godstow-road-oxford/ https://twitter.com/ThamesPathNT/status/1521391356777693184 ) Dave.Dunford (talk) 16:08, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough; revert my change, if you want. I don't have a fish in this game.
I don't think the thinness of the article is a good justiication for hijacking The Trout, though.
