Prequel to 2007's American Gangster[edit]

It's not a prequel, here is what Chris Brancato (the series creator) said: "I wrote a film about Bumpy Johnson years ago (...) and I wanted to tell his story at that time, during the civil rights movement. Show how it changed him. I realised during the writing process that, in fact, Bumpy Johnson was also a character at the beginning of the American Gangster movie. So if you want, we can see it like that, like a prequel to American Gangster."
