Gilbert Gottfried was in Edson Alberta today.

Hello everyone here is a little interesting info. Gilbert Gottfried was in Edson today shopping at the Walmart for luggage. My mom works there and she aproached him and asked him if he was Gilbert Gottfired, he was surprised that anybody in Canada would recognize him. She got her pic with him. He said he is working in Edmonton. Thought it was kind of neat.

Neat! What's "today"? DonMEGĂ|60645 14:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Someone might note

He hosted the USA (cable channel) "Up All Night" show for maybe three years in the mid-80's, doing different ad-libbed sketches each episode. Also, like PeeWee Herman, he has sequestered himself to only one character with that squint/voice, that of an oldstyle vaudville/ratpack jewish commedian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.80.81.193 (talk) 13:48, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Jewish American

Gilbert Gottfried is a Jewish American. For some reason, it is acceptable to have him included in the relevant categories, but not actually mention it in the body of the article. I am at a loss. Thank you. --Uncle Bungle 21:54, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Do you have any reliable sources which state this as a fact, and also indicate its relevance? For example, Einstein was a Jew, was forced to flee Nazi Germany as a result, and was later offered the Presidency of the State of Israel. Of what relevance is Gottfried's alleged ethnicity? Jayjg (talk) 00:41, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
I would argue that the "Jewish" passage comes across as obtrusive and irrelevant and will continue to appear that way until something is added to the article which uses reliable sources to show that Gottfried's religion plays a major part in his identity and his act.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:54, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I dont have a reliable source which marks the info as significant. I dont see the big deal though, since it is generally accepted. I can, however, accept when I'm wrong and will drop the issue. However, I think we need to make a concerted effort to bring all Wikipedia articles in line with this policy. I will start immediately with

I also think we should work through every article in Category:Jewish American Actors, as well as List of Jews. It seems there was some serious oversight, and I'm glad you were both able to bring this to my attention. Maybe we could start a Wikipedia project, is anyone interested? Thank you. --Uncle Bungle 01:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

The leads of both of those articles describe them as "American", not "Jewish-American". You kept trying to described Gottfried as "Jewish-American" in the lead here. I'm not really seeing the parallel. Jayjg (talk) 03:22, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Both those articles indicate they were born to Jewish-American parents in their early history section. Since this article does not have such a section, I thought it would be suitable in the lead. --Uncle Bungle 03:24, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

You obviously think this is extremely important information to include in the article, that we would somehow be doing the reader a disservice if we didn't clearly and prominently feature Gottfried's alleged Jewish ethnicity. Assuming Gottfried is indeed a Jew, perhaps you could add a Biography section to this article, in which you clearly clearly state, or perhaps insinuate in some way, that Gottfried is a Jew. Maybe you could say something like "Both of Gottfried's parents were Jews, which makes him 100% Jew as well". Whatever you think adds to the encyclopedic tone of the article. Just make sure you use reliable sources, of course. Jayjg (talk) 03:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Frankly I don't care if the information is included or not. It only bothers me because there was so much static about including this. Then I get Moshe (which obviously is beyond your control, Jayjg), making statements like I think you may want to ask yourself why you are so concerned with people knowing that someone is Jewish. To be on the safe side, I removed him from the categories as well. I guess no one noticed that he was included in them. Thanks again for your help. --Uncle Bungle 04:03, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Frankly, I believe I was justified in my comment, not necessarily correct but justified. The fact is, you arrived at this article and a couple of others after a very recent unrelated conflict and you reverted the only edit I had ever made here. What was I supposed to think? The fact that you now state that it does not matter to you merely adds credence to my accusation. However, I do not think it is productive for us to take our conflict all over wikipedia so consider this message an outreach of my hand in friendship (or at least friendly acquaintanceship:) ).- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 04:08, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

You said yourself the statement was true but should not be included in a strange way [1]. I put it in more tastefully, and all of a sudden I'm jumped on. What am I supposed to think?

Friars Club Roast of Hugh Hefner

There is a passage in the article of Gottfried's appearance at the Friars Club roast of Hugh Hefner, but it does not mention how he stole the show by making fun of Ice T's jokes (or Ice T's lack of jokes).

During the roast, Ice-T said that he didn't have anything prepared so he was just going to, "..follow you white motherfuckers home, and rape you fucking white bitches."

Later in the roast, Gottfriend said, "..Ice-T stole my whole act. I'm going to follow you white motherfuckers home, and rape you fucking white bitches! See, when a joke works, it just works. You white motherfuckers - and I'm gonna rape you white bitches." And every now and then during the rest of his bit, inappropriately inserting, "You white motherfuckers!".

It was plainly apparent that Gottfried, making fun of Ice T's set, was the hit of the evening and that he stole the show. The article should be editted to reflect this.

"Jewish diamond smuggling family"?

This is unsourced, and even if it was, I scarcely think that this is one thing he is "noted" for. I suppose one could say that he is noted for having a regional accent and squinting his eyes, but the relevance is questionable. As for his voice being "grating," in what way is that NOT a blatant POV? fishhead64 07:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Real voice

does anyone know if that's his real voice? --mysekurity 03:33, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

No, it's not. - Richardcavell 16:16, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Howard Stern and some of his staff have claimed that his "off-air" speaking voice is different. 71.238.183.51 03:21, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Emperors new school

i think his voice was used in the emperor's new school musiccal episode, when yzma and kronk were trying voice potions, it was the last one, the one kronk used. 67.189.162.24 (talk) 19:20, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Terrible level of pov

The tags aren't enough, it reads like he wrote it. Awful. --32.146.56.130 (talk) 04:16, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Walking problems

on the Joan Rivers roast, it seemed he was having great difficulty walking and getting around. Nay idea what the problem is? 98.246.114.248 (talk) 04:15, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Deleting rather than tagging

Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy asks that unreferenced negative, positive or questionable material be deleted immediately. User:JBsupreme has twice deleted the entire section of Gottfried's career highlights, without noting that some of the material is referenced and all of the material is neutral in nature, not questionable. This isn't a case where somebody is puffing up or tearing down a living person; it's just a description of career appearances. I put a tag at the top of the Career section asking for improvements to references. I don't think deletion is necessary here -- improving references is a good enough direction to take. Binksternet (talk) 16:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Deleted Jeopardy Reference

I cannot find any reference regarding Mr. Gottfried's appearance on Jeopardy. This article claimed that he appeared on Celebrity Jeopardy and shocked the world by saying "Biatch" many times while posing as Eminem. This seems like negative questionable material, and as such fits under the above policy.

It was the SNL skit "Celebrity Jeopardy," not the real Jeopardy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.22.123.35 (talk) 02:49, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Hollywood Squares episode

This incident was not unprecedented; the same thing happened with Wally Cox in the early 1970s. Both contestants needed his square to win, and they had to go back and forth at least half a dozen times (probably more) before someone finally won. I recall Cox managing to maintain his usual deadpan until the very end, when he finally cracked a smile. This episode probably has been destroyed, but I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else remembers. Richard K. Carson (talk) 05:48, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

His relationship w/ Howard and notable appearances and characters are probably worth adding? --Kangaru99 (talk) 23:08, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

What happened to the "Early life" section?

Right now it's just a single sentence:

Gottfried was born on February 28, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York.

Are his parents names (etc.) some sort of state secret???

Also, I don't think it as some tragedy if his Jewishness is mentioned. After all - Imdb has a quote of his: "In real life I'm a tall, blond Christian."

AllThatJazz2012 (talk) 23:19, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Controversy section is probably fictitious

The story of Gottfried's life of growing up in Vietnam and being conscripted to serve in the Viet Cong Army is almost certainly fiction. The reference for this information is taken from his book "Rubber Balls and Liquor", which is a work of humor, and should not be considered reliable. --Saukkomies talk 18:57, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/celebrity/gilbert-gottfried-iconic-comedian-dies-67-long-illness-rcna24111 notes that "Gottfried died at 2:35 p.m. ET on Tuesday from Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia due to Myotonic Dystrophy type II, according to Glenn Schwartz, his longtime friend and publicist". Myotonic Dystrophy type II is genetic and usually presents in early adulthood. I had no knowledge of his illness, but it seems by the direct way it was conveyed this may not have been something held close to the chest.
