Lead sentence[edit]

@Bbt400: every article needs a lead sentence that, per MOS:FIRST, "tell[s] the nonspecialist reader what, or who, the subject is". The current opening sentence "On 8 July 2020, it was announced that Germany will debut at the 2020 contest in Warsaw, Poland." is far too specific and doesn't satisfy MOS:FIRST, in particular the point: "If its subject is definable, then the first sentence should give a concise definition: where possible, one that puts the article in context for the nonspecialist."

I have explained here and here why I added the sentence "Germany has yet to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest." but if you cannot support this, then I think the current lead sentence should at least be reworded, removing "On 8 July 2020, it was announced that", since this level of detail does not suit the ideal style of a lead sentence. dummelaksen (talk • contribs) 07:57, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The JESC 2020 section[edit]

A recent edit by IP user 108.52.8.76 moved the JESC 2020 section into its own article, similar to other Eurovision-related articles. However, that leaves this article kind of empty. Most "Country X in the Y song contest" articles are mostly list articles, listing each individual participation, because each of those merit their own article. However, in this case there is only one participation, so in my opinion it does not make much sense to talk about "Germany in JESC in general" and "Germany in JESC in 2020" separately. Therefore, I propose we merge the two articles until Germany participates again. ―JochemvanHees (talk) 15:17, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JochemvanHees: Now that the contest has taken place, and the page data is complete, don't you think it's time to create a specific "Germany at JESC 2020" page?

I ask now as most of the data are not part of the scores of multiple holdings, but only of the edition performed. I also noticed that the pages of Switzerland and Serbia and Montenegro do not have all the data entered on the generalized page. So at this point it is not better to officially create the appropriate page, in the sense that it is just a simple redirect? — « Ðømīnīk • Cåpuån » 15:49, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. The page for Serbia and Montenegro in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest contains quite some information about their 2005 participation, and they don't have a page specific for 2005. ―JochemvanHees (talk) 22:44, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
