I just don't see how its any different from the entries for other world famous guitars makers like Del Langejans or Dana Bourgeois. Maybe my user name is clouding the issue, but, I'm just one of the thousands of fans of his work. delete if you wish, after all, its is your choice.

Copy vio?

This page seems awfully close to the company's website. I hesitate to put the big scary copyvio template on the page. Any suggestions? --AndrewHowse (talk) 20:57, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

The text resembles the life story as it is mentioned on the website www.georgelowden.com: "THE HISTORY OF GEORGE LOWDEN AND HIS GUITARS". However, I do not see why this should be regarded as a copyright violation, since no copyrights seem to appear on the information. IMHO it can be interpreted as public information, which is off course not the same as objective information.

The entire website from which this came is not under copyright protection as you may have noticed. Entry in breach of NPOV rules.

This entry was probably written by George Lowden. In it, he references several matters of a legal nature including receivership of his company and disputes with a company called Sarcon 54 Ltd. (He incorrectly states that Sarcon 54 is now called Avalon Guitars Ltd.)

As a party to some of the legal disputes he refers to, I am aware that matters he presents as fact are allegations that formed part of his litigation against the Lowden Guitar Co. Ltd. and its directors. There is an inference that his allegations had merit based on the outcomes he outlines when he is merely expressing a subjective opinion.

A significant part of this entry is a biased and unbalanced account of these proceedings which is not in the spirit of the NPOV guidelines. Stevemac3 (talk) 00:21, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Even though you editing the article would technically be a conflict of interest, I think you should go ahead and remove whatever material you think is biased legal stuff. This article was really terrible before I cut it up - I think it was mostly just copied from his website. So I don't doubt that some of the stuff I left shouldn't be there. Just don't add your own take - simply remove any NPOV material you see. I don't think you'll get any argument about it. Conical Johnson (talk) 04:41, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

The conflict of interest issue is what prevents me from editing the article. In any case, the allegations which appear here are duplicated on the individuals website where he is free to make whatever statements he wishes. I simply take the view that Wikipedia is not an appropriate place to deposit a one-sided view of an individuals business dealings. Moreover, I am not qualified to address some errors sufficiently (for example, Chapter 11 in the USA is not the same as receivership in the UK). I have however placed a POV alert on the article and invite the contributor to revise in accordance with NPOV guidelines. Stevemac3 (talk) 14:17, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

As a representative of George Lowden Guitars Ltd. I can say that we are quite concerned about the issues raised about this WIkipedia article. Firstly we would like to make it quite clear that we were not responsible for the original post, it was a straight copy and paste from our website (probably in 2005) and was posted by another user unknown to us. Just prior to that that time there was an unresolved intellectual property dispute. However, the issues then under dispute do not at all apply to the current state of affairs because a voluntary agreement was reached resolving all IP issues. We have thus edited the article accordingly. Moreover the original contentious post itself did not come to our attention at all until 2011. In addition, I have also made changes to the article regarding the association of receivership with 'Chapter 11', thus resolving another issue. Therefore, we (George Lowden Guitars Ltd.) would be most appreciative if a neutral Wikipedia user would remove the warnings regarding the neutrality of the article - as we believe there is no longer any dispute about the revised article.
