Charlie Patton/Blind Lemon Jefferson[edit]

Although Patton and Jefferson (and others, like Buddy Boy Hawkins) were recorded at the Gennett studios in Richmond, none of their recordings were issued on the Gennett label (Patton and Jefferson's recordings from Richmond appeared on Paramount) -- perhaps that paragraph could be reworked to make that explicit. Gennett <-> Starr[edit]

"The Gennett company produced the Gennett, Starr, Champion, Superior, and Van Speaking labels, and also produced some Supertone, Silvertone, and Challenge records under contract. The firm pressed most Autograph, Rainbow, Hitch, KKK, Our Song, and Vaughn records under contract."

I think it's not the Gennett company meant here but the Starr Piano Company. Starr owned the Gennett label and recorded and produced its discs. There never was a "Gennett company" that produced records, the Starr Piano Company was the owner of Gennett, Starr (as a record label), Champion, Superior and Van Speaking (a label I haven't found any info on yet). I removed the mention of a Gennette brand home phonograph as I have never heard any mention of one. The company made a good quality phonograph under the brand name Starr and these are not uncommon.Saxophobia (talk) 13:17, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In March of 1942 the War Production Board cut all existing record manufacturer's shellac rations to 70% of their normal level. The Starr company, being a longstanding record producer was awarded a ration of 70% of their annual consumption in 1939, a year in which the plant was busy doing contract pressing for Decca. This shellac ration became rather valuable, and it was subsequently sold to Joe Davis, per an interview with harry Gennett Jr. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.56.152.229 (talk) 02:49, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
