Untitled[edit]

I'm asking that this article not be deleted. Gary Kaplan was the founder of BetonSports which quickly become the most notable internet gambling site in history. He is named in other articles including the biography of David Carruthers who was hired directly by Gary Kaplan and the article on betonsports. Gary Kaplan's company and case have been discussed in detail by many printed papers and internet sites including the RiverFront times, see article at: http://www.riverfronttimes.com/2007-10-10/news/double-down/full and gambling911.com at: http://www.gambling911.com/David-Carruthers-Gary-Kaplan-071806.html. This case against him and is co-conspirators will set a precidence about the legalities of online gambling which today still continues to be 14 billion dollar industry world wide. Why speedy deletion? G. as he was known to most of us working in the industry at the time, was a pivotal personality in the formation of the industry, and the actions that BetOnSports.com took while he was at the helm, as well as afterwards, were also pivotal in the formation of the questionable policies many nations developed as a result.

The dollar amount may be very underestimated; the initial audit in 2001 of the 1999-2000 football season showed revenues of $998 Million alone. I can't cite a source for this, as I'm not sure where this was filed, but I know the # simply because I did the collection and aggregation of data.

Despite the somewhat vehement hatred of Gary and the BetOnSports.com branding (largely due to enforcement of plainly stated policies), and the umbrella companies, Gary was also somewhat of a philanthropist, organizing and contributing to many Costa Rican Charities, making a real impact in particular on orphans in the country. I found his business acumen, and ability to separate the wheat from the chaff when it came to certain issues, a rarity, even after I moved on to other industries (I was the General Manager of Professional Services for the software company that supplied the call center, internet sports wagering, and casino software -- I was largely responsible for fixing the software in 2002, however, and that version is still in use by some books today).

If I can help with this article, please let me know (I'm not that familiar with Wikipedia's communication structure yet, so I'm not sure how that may be, but I will watch this page). What are the issues that deem this biographical article markable for speedy deletion?Kevin.Shubert (talk) 16:34, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
