The winged freak[edit]

Gabreal's God is the Jogmondir, a 600 ft giant who has a bed and a throne. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shahdorggggggg (talkcontribs) 06:38, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As a female name[edit]

I'm tweaking the article having recently heard of Gabriel Weston. I would imagine there to be other female Gabriels out there, possibly as a result of the popular stereotype of angels as female. — Smjg (talk) 14:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gabriel as a female name comes from French Gabrielle, and not from any feminine stereotype: angels have no gender. Jorge Miguel Barberi (talk) 12:46, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of Gabriel[edit]

I don't know who spread the error in the meaning that even Oxford reproduces it.

Some say Gabriel means man of God because they derive it from geber, others say it derives from gabar meaning strength of God. A few recognize the "i" in the middle and say God is my man or even God is my strong man.

First, the root is gabar meaning "strength" because:

  1. it's Gabriel and not Gebriel.
  2. To say "man of God" you would use "ish" in Hebrew (ish haEl / ishel).

Second, the possessive suffix "i" at the end of a word meaning "my".

You can compare it with other Hebrew names, like Daniel (from daní" my judge) which means God is my judge. Jorge Miguel Barberi (talk) 13:01, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
