This article is in need of some help from someone who is fluent in French, and conversant enough with Freemasonry's history and rituals, that they can explain certain words, such as hexagonal, and how they are used in this article. The above link for the French Wikipedia version of the article does not go to the correct article, fr:Rite français is the correct link. I'll attempt to make a request on that article for assistance with this one - I hope google translate does an okay job! --Vidkun (talk) 14:27, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Hexagonal"[edit]

The word hexagonal is a literal translation from the French expression "l'hexagone" which means France (If you look at a map you will see that the form of France is very similar to a hexagon)

The author of the article means with the word "Hexagonal" that the GODF wanted to have a standard national French rite, in contrast to the English or Scottish rites. Since the name of the rite is "French rite" it could lead to confusion to write "the standardization of "Modern" French rites from 1782 onwards" because it could lead to believe that it refers to the rite and not to the country.

This is obviously hard to understand, specially if you are not both a freemason and speaks French, but I don’t know a better way to express the reference to the country and not to the rite without repeating the word “French”.
