Worth asking

Are the harassment allegations against him worth including? The claims don't seem to have gone anywhere—do they belong in the biography of a person with a thirty-year career? WWB (talk) 12:31, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

WP:BLP presently says "If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well documented, it belongs in the article—even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it. [...] If the subject has denied such allegations, that should also be reported."[1]. So is it noteworthy? In a newspaper, yes. In a small biography article, I'm not sure.
In the subsection titled "Avoid victimization",[2], WP:BLP says "Wikipedia editors must not act, intentionally or otherwise, in a way that amounts to participating in or prolonging the victimization." We assume he is innocent per WP:BLPCRIME. If we report the accusation, we will give it oxygen and possibly exacerbate the harm already done to his reputation. If we leave it out we miss an opportunity to make it clear to the reader who has heard the claim that Savage repudiates it. I'm really not sure about this, either, but lean toward leaving it out, for now. If the story grows or the media coverage becomes much more prominent, I'll rethink.
WP:BLP also says BLPs must be written conservatively. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 15:26, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
I think this is very eloquently stated, summarizing well the back-and-forth conversation I had in my own head. I'm leaning toward removal, but considering how long it's remained, it can't hurt to wait a few more days. WWB (talk) 17:15, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
I went ahead and removed it. If there's more news, I'm sure it will return. WWB (talk) 12:53, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, WWB. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 02:56, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
