Page hijack?[edit]

I can support the creation by User:BlueSalix of this page, the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee. Few Greeks know this is an entity, and know of its lobbying efforts.

It's even reasonable to cite instances of notoriety where the executive director would be in the news, or when significant milestones occur relating to the group. Perhaps in a Controversy or Milestone's section.

The recent brouhaha about an alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia may itself deserve its own page when things settle down and the facts are known. What seemed to be a compelling and awful story about a crime at the Phi Kappa Psi house at UVA, first reported in Rolling Stone, has been analyzed and found questionable by a number of disconnected readers, and at this writing, the story has seemed to fall apart at least in part. We just don't know. Commentators are lining up on both sides to say their piece. Today, BlueSalix created the page about the PAC, and then inserted references adjacent to the executive director's name in the InfoBox, which would leave readers thinking he had something do with the incident beyond the most marginal of connections: He was interviewed. He's from a different fraternity, a different school, and appears to be some 30 years older than the undergraduates that were involved. His PAC is anti-hazing, and pro-fraternity, and someone asked for a statement. That's it. The only link that is reasonable adjacent to his name is his bio. IMHO.

I read from the PAC's website that they support stripping financial aid recipients of their aid, when convicted in a court of law. However, they fight the rush to judgment that would have financial aid striped merely by a university's own internal investigations, many of these severely lacking in due process.

I have no connection with the PAC nor the university or fraternity involved. At my own university, one of my administrator friends has mentioned the PAC's work from time to time, regarding their lobby for charitable housing contributions. The PAC mostly works on that issue, to my knowledge.

Blue, is it your argument that this PAC is somehow anti-female, or that it should be defined on the basis of this alleged rape? That's not accurate. Again, I like the fact of the page, but think your positioning of the references about this to be ill-placed. Create a Controversies section, eh? Jax MN (talk) 23:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jax MN -First, there already is a page on the alleged rape, which I created. It's here and it would be very helpful if you joined in monitoring it. (While you're at it, please also check-out the page for Sabrina Erdely which I also created.) Second, we should almost always avoid "Controversies" sections as they tend to become a catchall for anything negative published about a person or thing and become extremely NPOV. Third, The phrase "they fight the rush to judgment that would have financial aid striped merely by a university's own internal investigations, many of these severely lacking in due process" is marketing-speak and not appropriate in an encyclopedia article. Fourth - it is most certainly not my argument (nor even my belief) "that this PAC is somehow anti-female" and I'm 99% certain any editor reviewing this article will find it encyclopedic and as typically vanilla as those of any PAC.
