Vital dates[edit]

We quote 2 sources:

  • Catholic hierarchy.org has 16 December – 17 August
  • ADB has 16 September – 16 August.

But our infobox has 16 December – 16 August, one from each source.

We need to get authoritative dates. Catholic Australia is quite happy to use the ADB dates and acknowledges their source. The Peerage also has 16 September-16 August.

I am very inclined to change 16 December to 16 September. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 21:53, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The death date is cited in several newspapers on Trove as around 7am on Wednesday 16 August 1911 ("DEATH OF CARDINAL MORAN". Examiner (Launceston, Tas. : 1900 - 1954). Launceston, Tas.: National Library of Australia. 17 August 1911. p. 5 Edition: DAILY. Retrieved 20 July 2011., "CARDINAL MORAN". The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931). Adelaide, SA: National Library of Australia. 21 August 1911. p. 7. Retrieved 20 July 2011.).
September seems to be correct for the birth date: The Launceston Examiner of 20 September 1909 ("ABOUT PEOPLE". Examiner (Launceston, Tas. : 1900 - 1954). Launceston, Tas.: National Library of Australia. 20 September 1909. p. 5 Edition: DAILY. Retrieved 20 July 2011.) says that "Cardinal Moran celebrated his 70th birthday this Thursday last..." which is indeed 16 September. Funnily enough they got his age wrong though—he would have been 79 in 1909 not 70!
This notice also gives his birth date as 16 September 1830 (correctly aged 75 in 1905!) ("Family Notices". The North Western Advocate and the Emu Bay Times (Tas. : 1899 - 1919). Tas.: National Library of Australia. 11 December 1905. p. 2. Retrieved 20 July 2011.) --Canley (talk) 01:11, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks Canley. I've made the necessary changes. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 12:03, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
