While nothing has been confirmed there is also a rumor that a possible group of local investors would like to bring or start a new WNBA team to the Fort Wayne, Indiana area.

WOWO was one of the original Westinghouse stations, a 50,000 watt clear channel AM station heard all over the eastern seaboard. In 1992 Hurricane Andrew knocked off many radio stations in South Florida and WOWO was one of the stations Floridians could hear updated news of the Hurricane. WOWO was also well known in the 70's and 80's for it's extensive Indiana sports, agriculture and weather coverage. In the mid 1990's the signal was downgraded to 9,200 watts allowing station WLIB New York extend it's coverage. WOWO and WLIB share the same frequency and WOWO's dominant 50,000 watt signal prevented WLIB from extending it's coverage without a downgrade of WOWO's grandfathered signal.

Golf?

Looking at Fort Wayne in Google Maps, I noticed many golf courses. Is Fort Wayne the golf capital of the Midwest? jmcw (talk) 09:01, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Metro area

It says it's the third, but really it's the second unless you're counting the Louisville KY-IN Metro area, which includes KY and the population of THAT metro area that actually lives in IN is quite low. The link to the source (article) only takes me to a news page, not the article. Structure

Hi. I'm going through all the US Cities (as per List of United States cities by population) in an effort to provide some uniformity in structure. Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Suggestions: I've gone through to read the rest of the article, and I think it can be a GA with a little bit of adjustments. First, I noticed some book citations were referenced in the reflist and further reading; some for single books with multiple page references had their own reference. So I went ahead and created {{{sfns}}} for them. Another suggestion is for you to put the large employers and sports lists into prose format. There are also some words like Also, Perhaps and because which start off some sentences and can muddy up the prose a bit. @Kharkiv07: Well, in the last couple of paragraphs of the history section I did feel as though the History section was a little WP:UNDUE to trivial things like the Courtyard hotel opening. If Buffalo, NY had this kind of information in it the paragraph would be a laundry list. I was also a little worried throughout a some of the paragraphs that it was missing inline citations for verifiability, but this might not be the case. Hm... I'm not seeing any references to a courtyard hotel, or anything of the type. I'm going to disagree with you about the history, in the last paragraph all of buildings are important to the city, either culturally or economically. You're welcome, and since then I went through and CE'd some more. I feel like there are too many lists of information, like company names and building names which are notable, but are just a little too much for each section. I also question the notability of some of the festivals listed, and some sections of the article contain prose lists, such as the list of council members. Performing arts

Removed line about the Purdue theaters, it seems like overkill as they are much smaller compared to the others listed.
Some of the other information I felt was overkill in that section, such as some of the venues in the Cultural District, so if you disagree just let me know.

Museums and attractions

I did a similar touchup to this section like I did with the previous one.

Festivals and events

I added a citation for the soccer event.

Sports

The Wilt Chamberlain claim seemed interesting so I went to get another reference for it.

Government - no apparent issues Education

That's a big prose list of colleges and they don't actually have references. That maybe okay however, as they are likely on the article pages.

lead cities list - Milwaukee within 200mi.?

It's really stretching it to say Fort Wayne is within 200 mi. of Milwaukee, WI. It's 196 mi. as the crow flies across Lake Michigan, but over 252 miles by road. Most people that make the trip are going to drive, so road distance is the most relevant measure. That means driving through downtown Chicago, so the journey is arduous. It's not an easy 4hr 65MPH drive. There's no source supporting some special association between Milwaukee and Fort Wayne. I think the city ought to be deleted from the list. lead semantics

"Fort Wayne was built in 1794..." Ok, the town was built. But then "The village was platted in 1823..." Ok, is Fort Wayne village different than the town? It isn't clear that we meant the military stockade of Fort Wayne the first time. Maybe we italicize the first instance? Or say "Fort Wayne military stockake was built in 1794..." followed by "The namesake village was platted in 1823...". Sbalfour (talk) 17:14, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Northwest Indian War

This article says:

"Three battles were fought at Kekionga against Little Turtle and the Miami Confederacy. Miami warriors defeated U.S. forces in the first two battles."

Does anyone know to which battles that is referring? I suspect that what they mean to say is:

Little Turtle and the Miami Confederacy defeated two U.S. expeditions (Harmar's and St. Clair's), the first of which included battles at Kekionga.

But I don't think the second expedition ever made it to Kekionga. The three battles could be referring to the Battle of Heller's Corner, Hartshorn's defeat, and the Battle of the Pumpkin Fields. But if so, the Miami won all three of those, not just the first two.

This article also says:

"General Anthony Wayne led a third expedition resulting in the destruction of Kekionga... On October 22, 1794, U.S. forces captured the Wabash–Erie portage from the Miami Confederacy"

Is that true? These four Wikipedia articles: 1, 2, 3, and 4 say he built Fort Wayne there, and the article on the treaty at the end of the war says it permitted a US army post at Fort Wayne. Demographics

This article says: "According to the 2010 Census, there were 420,690 people and 113,541 households." There's no citation that I can find for this sentence, just a citation to the 2010 Census at the end of the paragraph containing a bunch of census facts. Elsewhere in the article it says that Fort Wayne's population in 2010 was 253,691. Something is wrong or confusing here. Rchive (talk) 03:07, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Rchive
