Requested move[edit]

User:Jasenm222/FlyffFlyff — I made in my user space so I could complete at my own speed. It is now ready to publish. Well I think it is. Don't know if it meets standards. Also the Page Flyff has been deleted so many times that I want to be sure this is approved Jasenm222 (talk) 17:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. We don't just cut and paste from the game's on-line sources, as [1]. Go back, and describe the game, without praise, condemnation, or other people's words. See WP:COPYVIO. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:42, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose — Copypasta is not FTW on Wikipedia... 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 18:51, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Explain Ok if we don't cut and paste how do we take citations and verifiable sources. I didn't think we could reword a citation. I know enough about this game to make the page with no outside sources. But I was told that my knowledge wasn't required since it can't be verified. Jasenm222 (talk) 14:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • With a Wikipedia article you write it in your own words, aka paraphrase, & cite specifics to outside sources. To be considered a notable & properly cited, there need to be at least two third party sources (as in other than the official website, blog, forum, etc). If you know it, the knowledge has to be out there somewhere. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 15:05, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks, that's what i had done originally then someone told me i need to cite so i thought i had to use outside info without modifying. I got mixed up in the definition between citation and quotation. I've been out of school for a while :). I'll fix it up today. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jasenm222 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • Comment — The system requirements are not needed in the article twice if they are showing the same thing. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 17:30, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment — The introduction paragraph sounds like an ad. Please refer to WP:SOAP for more info. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 23:59, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've pulled the movereq from this. It seems things are well in hand now, but regardless of that the movereq process shouldn't really be used for this purpose. There's a noticeboard for this sort of thing, I'm fairly sure... yea, [[]] looks to be a good choice. Anyway, good luck with getting this up to standards! Dont' give up!

  • Thanks for the help everyone. It should be up to par now. I even reworded the lore. Jasenm222 (talk) 15:44, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why?[edit]

Why did you cut up the entire article? It looked fine, it just needed some rewording. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 16:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment — I liked it much better the way it was, it made it easier to read. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 17:15, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But its not like the other pages here. I liked better before too but i was afraid someone would delete it because it was different Jasenm222 (talk) 22:00, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was fine. There are no completely required "style" for Wikipedia, mostly guidelines. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 22:48, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hope your right. I don't want them to delete it.Jasenm222 (talk) 15:52, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It won't be speedy deleted now, it would be put up for AfD. 『 ɠu¹ɖяy¤¢ 19:29, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Game Engine[edit]

what game engine is it? how can i make a game like it? 71.112.200.2 (talk) 09:50, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No speedy delete[edit]

I have put many hours into this page. It has changed a lot and yes it still needs work but I do not think it is fair for you to attack it. Would in not be more productive to explain what is wrong. Video Games are a part of the site. I have removed what looked like guide info and it is much more neutral. My intention is not to promote but to inform. We are not schooled in encyclopedic writing. We are encouraged to use writing forms that are not accepted here. I have been searching for criteria to help me in my wording of this page, guidelines in what is appropriate and what in not. This is a very large site and finding what we need is not always easy. The use of layman's terms should be encouraged on the guide pages for understanding what we find in not always obvious. The only person I have found to be helpful in the least is ɠu¹ɖяy. Writing a wiki page on internet video games with all of the criteria demanded here is not as easy as it may seem. Online video games are not documented in the same way as computer or console games. The fact that the industry does not cover these games as intensively should not affect their importance. I have every intention to bring this page to standards. This will be achieved more promptly with help then hindrance.
Jasenm222 (talk) 16:59, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't been proposed for speedy deletion. However, since there is very little actual content discussing the game (outside of game manual information), it is liable to be deleted if you can't provide some actual evidence of notability. Have you never read the instructions on how to format a citation, for example? --Orange Mike | Talk 01:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article Revamp[edit]

If this article gets through the AfD process, then I think it definitely needs a huge overhaul. In my opinion, the Story Line section is completely surplus to requirements and should be saved for the Flyff Wiki. Development should probably be changed to History and Development, expanded and brought to the top of the article. Gameplay needs expansion and a rewrite... the classes system doesn't tell anyone what the subclasses are, and the skills part doesn't say anything at all. You can source pretty much everything in this article from IGN if you just look for it. Other Game Features/Systems should probably be merged into gameplay. Graphics and sound should be merged. There should possibly be a section on community, fansites, etc.

Just a few points to start with:

Couple System, version 13 saw the launch of this new system. The Couple System encourages cooperative game play. Two characters forming a couple will be granted special buffs and with each new couple level they will receive gifts. The Couple System is offered only to traditional couples

Version 13 saw the launch of this new system - source. [2] What are traditional couples?

Also, some things don't make sense. Under problematic areas it says:

Gender based armor: all clothing has a gender. This includes cash shop clothes and hairdo's.

Why is this an issue? Do you have a source?

Penya Spammers: are probably one of the biggest problems with this game. The towns are plagued with them. Recently they installed a new alert message that tells users to report these spammers. It has not affected their business. Often making the trip to town impossible and the gameplay not enjoyable.

I have never experienced this. Do you have a source or is this WP:OR?

Gameguard issues: Flyff uses the nProtect GameGuard system for anti-hacking. This system often wreaks havoc with the users computer. Acting as a rootkit it is criticized for being extremely invasive. It enters key areas of the operating system.

Again, I have never experienced this havoc. Do you have a source?

Hope this helps/doesn't appear like I'm being a dick. Metty 17:58, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU[edit]

Yes I shouted. Thanks, under problematic areas I have all the sources. They are tagged at the bottom of the page. They are not all same format. I will put them back tomorrow after i reformat them. I have contacted ign to acquire links to their archive. They have covered Flyff since its launch I think. For skills and classes I don't know how to say more without it being seen as a guide. Arrg this is complicated. For lore don't we need to give a story line for readers to know what the game is about or do I integrate the lore into the gameplay? Again thanks Jasenm222 (talk) 01:12, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Storyline is not needed, but background of the Flyff universe is. One to two, well structured paragraphs, would all the article would need. Remember a wiki article for a video game is an overview not a game guide, this is why you link people to the official website for more information on the game. ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  01:31, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a go at writing something for the skills & classes tomorrow. Metty 02:14, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Guess I was editing while you were here. I added more to classes. "Storyline is not needed, but background of the Flyff universe is" don't mean to sound dumb but what is the difference?

For referencing I'll be using this one it seems to have everything in it.
<ref name="***">{{cite web |url=***| title =***| accessdate=yyyy-mm-dd|author = ***| publisher =***.com}}</ref>
Jasenm222 (talk) 02:37, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per Template:Cite web, a more uniform way to site would be <ref>{{cite web |title= |url= |date= |work= |publisher= |accessdate=}}</ref> ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  21:05, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Background to the universe would be everything that you are told about the lore of the game before you start. Storyline is a plot. Things you find out whilst you play. I think. However, I disagree. I would say you don't need either. Metty 03:25, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Background is more of a quick synopsis of wtf the is going, a summary. ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  20:25, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks I'll try to compose something for thatJasenm222 (talk) 22:09, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Classes and Skills[edit]

If you could take a look at this User:MetricSuperstar/sandbox - I've written up a bit about classes and skills. It's been a while since I've played so something might be wrong. It's also currently unsourced. However, initial thoughts/changes? Metty 04:33, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. for sources you can refer to the flyff page or the flyff wiki. which is a closed (not open to public editing) wiki so no one can complain.
just a few things
  1. Rangers have low Health points they are very high hitters if stats are done right.
  2. will this be seen as a guide? My initial page had a lot of info but everyone kept saying it was a guide so I removed a lot of content.
http://flyff-wiki.gpotato.com/index.php/Skills
http://flyff.gpotato.com/?m=welcome&a=classes
I'm not sure. I tried to keep it as simply and unpromotional sounding as possible. For example, I took out the the class hero and I changed phrases like "Master of AOE" and "Extreme speed and the capacity of invisibility, makes this class a deadly stealth attacker" - if it sounds too interesting, it generally doesn't suit wikipedia. I am having difficulty writing in boring style. So many years of finding colorful words to spruce up text is taking its tole :)

I'm going to edit ref tags so they are all the same I hope its okJasenm222 (talk) 17:04, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have cleaned the sandbox up a little bit to help keep the ToC shorter & also slighter easier to edit, IMO. ɠu¹ɖяy¤ • ¢  20:47, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
