WHY is it banned? 184.75.33.66 (talk) 09:49, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Flag error on Flupentixol/melitracen page[edit]

I would like to flag an error on this page: the text that Flupentixol/melitracen (Deanxit) is banned in Denmark, US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, India, Japan and Australia is incorrect. The reference for this text is a BMJ news article. The BMJ has issued a correction to this article http://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f4366 indicating that Lundbeck, the makers of Deanxit, ‘never applied for registration for marketing approval of the drug in Denmark; nor in the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Japan, or Australia. Consequently, it is untrue to say that the drugs are banned in these countries.’

In India, marketing approval for Deanxit was suspended in July 2014, http://www.drugscontrol.org/pdf/GSR%20498%20(E)%20dtd%2011.7.14.pdf, hence the statement regarding India is more accurately described as ‘suspended’ instead of ‘banned’.

Yes, JuliaSimonsen I found the March 4, 2015 correction at http://www.bmj.com/content/350/bmj.h1232 (BMJ 2015; 350 doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bmj.h1232 (Published 04 March 2015)) and removed the sentence about the US, UK, ...ban.

Ban in India[edit]

Regarding India,
It seems the pdf you provided ends with "the Central Government hereby prohibits the manufacture for sale, sale and distribution of the following drug with immediate effect: “Fixed dose combination of Flupenthixol and Melitra cen for human use” dated July 11, 2014.
And I see "Lundbeck to seek legal recourse after health ministry bans Deanxit again" Soma Das, ET Bureau Jul 25, 2014
It seems like the status has changed over time. Is there something even more recent about this?--CaroleHenson (talk) 12:43, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and made the updates based upon the information that is available at present. If you can find a source, though, that states that the status has changed in India, an edit can be requested at that time.--CaroleHenson (talk) 07:26, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
