I'm not sure I understand that there's a need for seperate articles Fisher Island, Florida and Fisher Island (Florida). Much of the info is duplicated. I proposed merging, to the larger and older "Fisher Island, Florida" article, and making this a redirect. -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:12, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely agree that these articles should be merged. (And I hope you won't mind that I corrected the second wikilink you provided!). Qqqqqq (talk) 22:26, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The problem here is there is the physical island, and the CDP. All CDP's have articles. A small portion of the island is part of the City of Miami Beach, and is not in the CDP, hence the need for two articles. Another example of this scenario is Key Biscayne, an article on the island and Key Biscayne, Florida, an article on the village. Key West also has 2 separate article, one for the island, and Key West, Florida for the city. Seems strange, but that's apparently how Wikipedia wants it. - Marc Averette (talk) 00:09, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In that case one should be chosen as the primary descriptor, and the other should be about stub-length (with commented missives within to ensure any additions go to the big article). The amount of overlap now is pointless and confusing. Radagast (talk) 21:00, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I would also want to do the same for Key West. It's a bit ridiculous to have 2 separate articles (especially for one the size of the KW article) to say almost the same thing, but slowly diverge over time, because edits are made to one and not the other (and vice-versa). One should be a stub (the island one?). The other should contain the bulk info. - Marc Averette (talk) 17:43, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On 2nd thought - if the CDP is smaller than the island, maybe the island should be the main article? For example Key Biscayne (island) should be the main one, because it is much larger and contains much more than the tiny village of KB. On the other hand, the city of Key West occupies several surrounding islands, so the city article should be the big one, and the island a stub. Are there Wikipedia rules governing this? - Marc Averette (talk) 17:49, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
