Suggested enhancements[edit]

  • Add picture -- there must be thousands of pictures of this train!
  • End of steam? - 1 -- the article does not mention how the railtour relates, time-wise, to the end of steam on BR
  • End of steam? - 2 -- was there a significance to the locations and route chosen, with regard to availability of locomotives, servicing facilities, etc?
  • significance of price - 1 -- what was the 'normal' price for a railtour ticket then?
  • significance of price - 2 -- by way of comparison, what was the price of a 'normal' ticket compared to the average wage, or some other financial yardstick?

The reasons for the pricing queries is that at this distance from the event (40+ years) the majority of readers will not appreciate how expensive it was (or wasn't). Since this appears to be one of the key aspects that asserts its notability, it is important that this is made clear.

(PS - before I get a {{sofixit}} sent to me, I had never heard of this train before this article was created!)

Gallery[edit]

2013 rerun, 45231 piloting 44932.

These are some snapshots of the 2013 recreation. Obviously it's not of the main subject, but of a slight tangent. We already have a quality photo of the 2013 recreation (see right), and I'm not sure that these add anything whatsoever to the article. They are generally poor quality, poorly composed and overexposed. Can anyone give good policy-based reasons for retaining these images? WP:GALLERY WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATECOLLECTIONOFSNAPSHOTS

Perhaps they should be removed. Tony May (talk) 03:10, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The gallery serves no special purpose and the images should best be left in commons. Please go ahead and remove the gallery.SovalValtos (talk) 05:04, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK I have removed it. If anyone has any objections please reinstate and explain here. Tony May (talk) 03:27, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
