Plot section[edit]

The plot section should not be a single direct quote from another article - I've never seen this in a Wikipedia article before, where the entire section is just a one-line direct quote from the source. I think this article should have probably been expanded before being moved to mainspace but hopefully TheMovieGuy or others will continue working on it? SeraphWiki (talk) 21:10, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure will continue to work on it. However, i do not see anything wrong with directly quoting an article as long as the quote is attributed with quotation marks confirming that it is in fact a quote. This does include quotation marks so it is fine. When the film hits release, one can do more with it. Until then, this should be fine. When more information about this tight-lipped project comes out, the page will expand. As it is, i feel the article is relevant enough - conisdering it has already been through principal production. Thank you for your wisdom! TheMovieGuy (talk) 23:33, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are two other movies (released in 2017) with the same name...[edit]

& then: No_Escape_Room Jeni Ross Mark Ghanime Hamza Haq Kathryn Davis Script spoiler alert. The woman in the closet is completely neglected, in the script, as well as in the credits. I do not actually recommend this movie. Panic_Room Be careful in choosing a roadside_attraction, tourist_trap. South_of_the_Border_(attraction). Dhsert (talk) 05:00, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Escape Room (2019 film)Escape Room – Seems to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC per WP:DIFFCAPS. The only other thing that gets so many hits is the movie's sequel. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 19:49, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. There are 11 entries listed upon the Escape Room (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the 2019 film has achieved such lasting fame that it equals the renown of the other putative WP:PRIMARYTOPICEscape room — and dwarfs the combined notability of the remaining nine dab page entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 20:59, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – other than Escape room, there is only one other article entitled exactly "Escape Room" (Escape Room (2018 film)) and the 2019 film is clearly primary vs. that. So by WP:DIFFCAPS, this film is primary as "Escape Room". —Joeyconnick (talk) 21:05, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - This feels like an introduction of ambiguity which will not benefit the project in the long-term. -- Netoholic @ 02:02, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Roman Spinner and Netoholic. Nothing provided that proves Escape Room (2019 film) is the PRIMARYTOPIC. Festucalextalk 06:42, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:29, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Roman Spinner, who puts it quite well. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 14:21, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note to closing admin Please consider WP:NOTAVOTE when deciding this discussion. Despite the sheer amount of opposes, no one so far has given a reason why this is a special case where DIFFCAPS should be ignored. As User:Joeyconnick pointed out, the only other article that is titled in caps is the 2019 film. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:00, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • DIFFCAPS is basically a soft, permissive guideline which states that small differences may be used as means of disambiguation subject to editorial consensus. It does not mean that we should employ it just be cause we can. No such user (talk) 09:23, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From WP:DIFFCAPS: The general approach is that whatever readers might type in the search box, they are guided as swiftly as possible to the topic they might reasonably be expected to be looking for
I would posit that most people typing "Escape Room" (capital R) into the search box at Wikipedia are looking for Escape Room (2019 film), so seems to perfectly fit the guideline, which—despite the clever "oh it's not really a real guideline" phrasing above—is, you know, part of a real guideline and apparently of enough import to warrant a shortcut. —Joeyconnick (talk) 18:24, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really sure where the "soft, permissive" part came from. The top of the page states that "all editors should normally follow [it]", and DIFFCAPS section does not contain language that undermines that. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:50, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
First, it comes from disclaimers such as they are guided as swiftly as possible to the topic they might reasonably be expected to be looking for, or When such navigation aids are in place, small details are usually sufficient to distinguish topics, (bold mine). And second, from the practice how it has been applied in RMs – haphazardly. I remain unconvinced that readers typing uppercase "R" here can reasonably be expected to be looking for this article, particularly as the time goes by and the film sinks into oblivion. • At the very least redirect the title case version to the DAB but I'm not sure the 2019 film being primary. It has 45,012 views compared with only 9,292 for the generic meaning but Escape Room: Tournament of Champions has 42,165[[1]] though that appears to be a derivative meaning of the 2019 film.
