Album Covers[edit]

All the covers are placed next to their entries in the list, with the exception of the Yardbirds, which is just a couple of lines above it for spacing purposes. If you want to edit, change or swap any of them just edit the section in which they are listed. MightyMoose22 >Abort, Retry, Fail?_ 08:17, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite/Structure/Style[edit]

I'm going to dedicate a fair amount of my time to this article during the next week starting tomorrow and will try and get as much stuff into this article as possible. I will probably restyle (table) and restructure it during the next few days. Stby. Poeloq (talk) 04:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The intro paragraphs use atrocious grammar. I assume nobody will mind if I make corrections...? Beeeej (talk) 23:23, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Videography ?[edit]

Concerning CREAM ROYAL ALBERT HALL: LONDON MAY 2-3-5-6 2005, I'm afraid the 5 x platinum RIAA award was granted to the dvd, not to the record. By the way, I could not find any videography/dvd section for Eric !? Best regards from Paris, France :-) --Polofrfr (talk) 23:25, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Missing single[edit]

What about that garbage fromt the 1988 Summer Olympics Album, "Fight (No Matter How Long)" by Clapton with the Bee Gees (!), credited as the Bunburys? - SummerPhD (talk) 17:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Finally got back to this. I've added it with the best sources I could find. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:31, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stone Free[edit]

Where should we put Clapton's cover of "Stone Free" from the 1993 album Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix? GoingBatty (talk) 15:02, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added a Tribute album section, and included three songs. Please expand as appropriate. GoingBatty (talk) 02:16, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Let It Rain[edit]

I don't know how to fix it, but Let It Rain is on Eric Clapton, not 461 Ocean Blvd. Mitchburndt (talk) 18:43, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks! :)--GoPTCN 18:52, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Twister Soundtrack[edit]

Performed Motherless Child in the 1996 movie Twister. Song does not appear on the official movie soundtrack CD though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.132.242.31 (talk) 09:43, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 3 external links on Eric Clapton discography. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Requirement for references for chart positions, etc.?[edit]

In going through some citations for chart positions, etc., I noticed that several of the references do not support the information in this discography. Since there have been problems in this area, a requirement that all chart data have citations to accessible reliable sources may be beneficial. This is consistent with WP:Source list:

When an item meets the requirements of the Verifiability policy, people reading or editing the list can check an item's reference to see that the information comes from a reliable source. For information to be verifiable, it also means that Wikipedia does not publish original research: its content is determined by information previously published in a good source, rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors, or even the editor's interpretation based on but beyond what the source actually says. Even if you're sure that an item is relevant to the list's topic, you must find a good source that verifies this knowledge before you add it to the list (although you can suggest it on the talk page), and add that source in a reference next to the item.

Any thoughts on making this a requirement? —Ojorojo (talk) 15:51, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dirty Mac[edit]

I don't see a listing for the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus at which The Dirty Mac (John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell) played Yer Blues. Recorded on 12/10/68 and finally released on 10/12/96. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael52852 (talkcontribs) 23:26, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Singles?[edit]

Why is there no “singles” section here? TheScotch (talk) 18:14, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because there is a separate discography article for that: Eric Clapton singles discography ReginaldBull (talk) 07:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks. Never heard of a that before, but I suppose it's fine--unless someone wants to make the link more noticeable.TheScotch (talk) 05:35, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Albums with groups prior to solo career[edit]

The discography currently contains a section that lists albums recorded with Clapton when he was a member of different groups prior to his solo career. The once proposed WP:DISCOGSTYLE does not address the issue, but five WP feature list-rated discographies for solo artists who also have/had careers with groups only list their solo releases and not those with groups (see Phil Collins discography, Gwen Stefani discography, Justin Timberlake discography, Josh Homme discography, and Bruce Dickinson discography). This practice is followed in numerous other solo career discographies (see various entries in Category:Discographies of American artists, Category:Discographies of British artists, etc.)

There does not appear to be any reason to treat Clapton differently than other solo artists who also have/had careers with groups. Propose to remove the section (most of its citations have already been removed for failed verification), so the focus is on Clapton's solo career and maybe make it easier to maintain.

Chart positions & certifications[edit]

Over the years, there have been numerous attempts to add false statistics to Eric Clapton articles (see ANI Source faking). One editor and some of their sockpuppets were blocked (see SPI Matthiasberoli), but there still remain questionable statistics. Recently, IPs have been adding unverifiable chart and cert numbers and causing many formatting problems. It will take awhile to verify all the material, so the hatnote "This article possibly contains inappropriate or misinterpreted citations that do not verify the text" remains.

In trying to bring this discography up to FL standards, the number of different country charts has been limited to the standard ten and represent those with the most overall existing entries. The certifications have also been limited to those ten, in keeping with the proposed WP:DISCOGSTYLE#Per-release #8: "Certifications for countries whose peaks are not shown [in the table] should also be left out of the per-release listing, per WP:INDISCRIMINATE".

Ojorojo (talk) 17:28, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This discography has been cleaned up and verified to the point where the "possibly contains inappropriate ..." tag is not needed. It includes all of his albums and a separate section for "Substantial contributions to albums by other artists" (four or more songs).
The "Other appearances" section (a list of miscellaneous songs) is mostly complete, based on the sources cited in the Bibliography. However, the section does not seem appropriate for an "albums discography", since many are one-off recordings. Perhaps it can be used to start a List of songs recorded by Eric Clapton, similar to other Category:Lists of songs by recording artists. We'll see what others have to say.

Clapton page addition[edit]

[Copied from User talk:Ojorojo[1]]:

Clapton played Dobro guitar on “The Roof is Leaking” on Phil Collins Face Value. Jthawort (talk) 06:29, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jthawort: The AllMusic review for Face Value doesn't mention it.[2] Do you have any reliable sources for this? —Ojorojo (talk) 15:35, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The personnel listing for the Face Value Page on Wiki, the Face Value page on AllMusic, and the liner notes on the album itself. It only lists Clapton playing “guitar” but in an interview Collins said it was a dobro. Anyway guitar is fine. Jthawort (talk) 04:59, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP articles cannot be used as sources for other articles (see WP:CIRCULAR). AllMusic's "Credits" listing (not part of the written review) only shows Clapton as a "Guest Artist, Guitar", but doesn't specify which song(s). But only its professional reviews are considered reliable and it doesn't mention Clapton (see WP:RSMUSIC). For "The Roof Is Leaking", the album liner notes show only one guitarist, "Joe Partridge slide guitar". Please provide a link to a reliable source that specifically shows that Clapton plays the guitar on this song. —Ojorojo (talk) 15:46, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
