Central to Newcastle trains[edit]

Epping is a stop on trains from central to newcastle, with the exception of a few full express, it is on the express lines though.

Unique Booking office[edit]

Removed the (hidden) revert by User:JRG.

Unless someone wants to explain why the "booking office on the footbridge" is unique it shouldn't be written so, there are other examples of such structures on the Northen line and other Sydney Lines.


Platforms 5 & 6[edit]

Epping station has signage everywhere as part of its Epping to Chatswood line station upgrade construction that states that the underground platforms will be numbered 5 & 6. See the photograph in article for confirmation. Pikablu0530 13:07, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where is Platform 4?[edit]

Since this is just a talk/discussion page I thought I would raise the question here. Would anyone have any idea why there is no Platform 4 at Epping station? Any educated guesses are welcome.

My personal guess is that maybe because there originally was a Platform 4 (opposite Platform 3), but later on decided to fence one side off to become the terminating platform Platform 2. So when numbering they decided to not confuse with the "original" Platform 4 and so start from Platform 5 instead. Possibly similar to Wynyard Station how Platforms 1 and 2 were historic platforms that once existed, and the existing platforms begin numbering from Platform 3. No, that's not correct. Epping has only ever had 3 platforms. It was originally an island platform, then a third platform was built in the 1920s for the future Eastwood to St Leonards railway (see here for details). It was originally sealed off at the Cheltenham end, but was later opened up in the 70s(?) to become a through track and an extra bidirectional platform. They were always numbered 1, 2, and 3. Platform 4 is for a future quadruplication of the Main North line by ARTC, which will end up with two terminating platforms for trains from Epping; the two outside tracks will be used for intercity trains and freight only. That's why there's no platform 4. There's no historical reason at all. JRG 00:16, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Nomination[edit]

Line(s)[edit]

In the infobox where it says "Line(s)" shouldn't the Epping to Chatswood railway line be listed with the Main North railway line? And, since I'm here, I'm still a bit confused at the Sydney Trains services along this line. Say you're coming south along the Main Northern from Hornsby and get to Epping. Do any Sydney Train services go the above-ground Epping platforms, or are all of the services routed to the two underground Epping platforms? I guess what I'm asking is are any city-bound services coming in from the north routed through above-ground Epping, or does everyone have to take the loop via underground Epping to eventually get back to above-ground Epping via the city? --Criticalthinker (talk) 12:11, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
