Arnold's alleged performance at San Antonio centennial[edit]
An editor added this sentence: "For the centennial of San Antonio, Texas, she opened the celebrations at the Mission San José with 'The Star-Spangled Banner' in the presence of Mayor Lila Cockrell and Archbishop Francis Furey." Evidently this information came from Arnold's obituary, but it cannot be true. San Antonio was founded in 1718; its centennial was celebrated in 1818. Perhaps the editor meant bicentennial or tricentennial (both of which did involve significant celebrations)? No. Arnold turned 7 in 1918 and was dead by 2018. The 250th, in 1968, might at first seem more likely: that was the year of HemisFair '68, a World's Fair with a multitude of cultural events. But Lila Cockrell was not mayor until 1975; her position overlapped with Furey's tenure as archbishop from 1975 to 1979. Perhaps Arnold sang at some event at Mission San José in those years, but it was most certainly not the centennial of the city, and a Google search turns up no evidence (other than Arnold's 2006 obituary and a few other pages that quoted it) of any such event. I am removing the sentence, but if another editor can clarify what was intended, and reliably source it, that would be welcomed. 24.243.2.93 (talk) 16:12, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
