A comparison[edit]

It is difficult to compare the status and renown of decorations.

The Military Order of William is much rarer then the Legion d'Honneur of France. In the Second World War 196 knights werde appointed. 55 of them posthoumus. The VC was awarded 182 times but within a much larger army.

The legion d'Honneur currently has 113 425 knights and tens of thousands were appointed during the Second World War. In 1959 there were 300 000 living knights! see [1] Robert Prummel (talk) 10:27, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
