Munch's BPD

The article rather prominently features the claim that Munch suffered from Borderline personality disorder. Obviously Munch was a deeply troubled person, but it strikes me as wild speculation to say anything more than that. The sources cited are particularly unsatisfactory. The first is a 1991 book (in Danish) published by the Danish psychopharmaceutical giant Lundbeck. It is well known that for several decades pharmaceutical companies have run or supported "destigmatization" and "awareness" campaigns for various illnesses. This obviously is not done out of charity but is intended to increase pharmaceutical uptake in the population. The likelihood of disease mongering therefore makes this a particularly unsuitable source. The second source is a 1980 article in a psychoanalytic periodical. It has a sensitive exploration of Munch's art and life but would also seem to be inappropriate to cite. In the absence of anything more than speculation from dubious sources I would suggest that the article be modified. 212.88.224.186 (talk) 19:42, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
