Untitled[edit]

The arboretum was originally named after the wife of the prof who toiled for 20 years to create it. The professor then retired, and (then-President, or he might have been Chancellor by that time) Carrier renamed it after his wife, who had never even seen the place. Not sure how to add that to the article in an encyclopaedic tone, though, especially since I cannot avoid the fact that I'm blatantly POV on this. Arboretum Naming[edit]

The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at James Madison University in fact has had no previous name. From inception until receiving it's name under University-wide naming policy, generally referral was simply, "the arboretum" or, "the arboretum at James Madison University." The process and policy of naming any university facility at James Madison University is consistent and no exception was made when the naming Edith J. Carrier Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at James Madison University was effected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Turnbuglatejcarboretum (talkcontribs) 17:16, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
