Mitchells and Butlers' GroundMitchells & Butlers' Ground – Formal name is with an ampersand; see Mitchells & Butlers and Mitchells & Butlers Brewery. Note: although the proposed name is a redlink, the MediaWiki move feature won't let me move it, and so we need an admin to do the deed. I've moved the page - whatever it was that prevented the move was only temporary and has been fixed now. Peter James (talk) 20:17, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 2 September 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Moved. While there is good support below, much of that is discounted because the sources provided do not use the proposed title (no "Sports" in the name). And yet, it is clear that there is consensus below to discard the present name of this article. In accord with WP:NOGOODOPTIONS the closer chooses from available options, which are:

  1. Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground – Mpk662 (proposed title)
  2. Edgbaston Foundation Ground – Havelock Jones

So the new title for this article, Edgbaston Foundation Ground, will hopefully be a keeper. Also in accord with NOGOODOPTIONS, the closer has to make it clear that "while consensus has rejected the former title (and no request to bring it back should be made lightly), there is no consensus for the title actually chosen. And if anyone objects to the closer's choice, then instead of taking it to move review, they should simply make another move request at any time, which will hopefully lead the article to its final stable title." Mitchells & Butlers' GroundEdgbaston Foundation Sports Ground – The ground was renamed/rebuilt around 2015 and renamed the Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground (or Edgbaston Foundation Community Sports Ground) (see here and CricketArchive profile), and this is how the ground was referred to in advertising the women's matches that have taken place here this year. Mpk662 (talk) 21:25, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per evidence given by the nom. And also to remove sponsor name, which is standard for cricket articles. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:08, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Per nom. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:07, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. All evidence above is from primary sources, which of course tend to just repeat the official name. In order to justify a move we need evidence of usage in recent secondary sources. Andrewa (talk) 21:44, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just Google the new name, and there are lots of hits, including whole article about it [1]. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:27, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also it's completely wrong to called it the "Mitchells & Butlers' Ground", as it was rebuilt in 2015, and the new ground has never used that name. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:52, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Edgbaston Foundation Ground. WP:OFFICIALNAME doesn't require us to ignore the official name. In the absence of any suggestion to the contrary, its reasonable to suppose that common usage reflects the change in name. However, both the Edgbaston website and the Express & Star article refer to it as Edgbaston Foundation Ground without the word Sports. Havelock Jones (talk) 10:31, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
