History[edit]

"The effort of unions to organize miners is a violent chapter in the state's history. In 1933, the President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt threatened to call the National Guard in order to forcibly unionize parts of Raleigh County. Nevertheless, labor organizing persisted under the leadership of John L. Lewis and the United Mine Workers."

This sounds strange, the problem was caused by unions, and the president attmpted to unionise to resolve the problem?

Article Focusing on negative aspects of West Virginia and not actual topic[edit]

This article seems to be out of focus on what the topic is. This is not a "poverty in West Virginia" article and I suggest that if someone wants an article on that topic they should create one. This article is about West Virginia's economy and says virtually nothing about things like what the GDP of the state is, what the GDP per capita is, any informative statistics, and any information other than information on how the state is impoverished. This article is simply taking an excuse to bash the state, which wikipedia is not about. I suggest someone change this article or delete it.

NPOV dispute[edit]

The article presents a series of descriptive deceptions. It creates misleading and false a impression using dated statistics that are no longer relevant. With the loss of the coal industry, the article will need revision reflecting that.

As it also appears to present a "sugar coated" viewpoint, as an unethical investment banker may use to sell stock in a failing company. This page is not a place to post "visit West Virginia" advertising.

The paragraph on Protea Biosciences reads like an advertisement. I do not think "up-and-coming" applies, and the Xerox analogy is poor (there is no copying involved). The paragraph also has too much scientific detail for an article on West Virginia. A simple mention of this small company would be sufficient.
