In his later decades, Bolinger was kind of a thorn in the side of generativists to some degree, but was not really broadly theoretically influential. Also, in the 1950's or late 1940's, he apparently led a city-appointed commission to decide on the English pronunciation of the name of "Los Angeles". I don't have JSTOR access, but I do probably have a physical paper copy of the issue with the obituary (if I knew which one it was, and could find it
