Odd and little remembered fact about Mel Powell.

In 1945 while still part of the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band, Mel Powell won a jazz poll. I don't remember if it was from Down Beat Magazine or Metronome Magazine as they both had these polls back then and it likely no longer matters.

What DOES matter is that accomplishment, combined with 'Duplicates', made Powell the only musician in American musical history to win both a jazz poll and the Pulitzer Prize for Music in their lifetime.
