Copyviolation[edit]

I have commented out the section on his wife, Anne Ward. It's a copyviolation, as it's been taken straight from her Dictionary of New Zealand Biography entry. If somebody feels inclined to rewrite it, please go for it. Schwede66 09:21, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, well, it was not a cut and paste but it was neatly written in the DNZB and I re-typed (true!) a few individual sentences from it.
Her husband apparently had all the start in life most of us can wish for yet he ran foul of the establishment and spent a long working lifetime doing the same thing without promotion until it was offered at a most insulting moment. His wife's achievement seemed to make something of his life. I see you are the parliamentary expert, I leave some note of her life to you.Eddaido (talk) 09:06, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Retyping a few individual sentences" is what constitutes a copyviolation. It starts when you retype a single sentence. You'll always have to rephrase it. Schwede66 16:35, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While I'm here - is a file name Charles Ward (politician) [and page title] appropriate for someone known as Dudley Ward who was in parliament just 18 months and spent 49 years as a judge? Isn't Wikipedia Marvellous! and I do give credit where credit is due Eddaido (talk) 09:28, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not an appropriate name. When you look at the article's revision history, yoy'll see that it was set up in September 2004 as a stub about a politician. That editor wrote articles about the 1st and 2nd Parliament at that point. He was obviously unaware that Ward had a long career as a judge. I'll move it to Dudley Ward (judge) - about time for this to happen! Schwede66 16:35, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary[edit]

Earlier today, I left the following edit summary (relevant bit highlighted): "shift reference to the location of what it references (it's placed there deliberately; please read it); amend URL"

I wrote this prior to revisiting the talk page. My apologies, of course you are well aware of the content of the reference.

But to expand on the sentiment of the issue, this reference doesn't belong to Anne Ward's name – it belongs to the part of the text that it refers to. Hence, I've shifted it back into the right spot. I've also adjusted the URL, so that it opens her bio directly. Schwede66 18:06, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
