Warner Bros. television series?[edit]

Why is this shown (in the lists at the bottom of the article) as being a Warner Bros. television series? The NBC series was produced by MGM Television. --Proofreader J-Man (talk) 02:38, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, it appears that this issue now really pertains to the page specifically for the TV series at Dr. Kildare (TV series). That page explains that while MGM Television originally produced the show, the rights are now owned by Turner via Warner Bros., and Warner Bros. has in recent years released DVD sets of episodes. I've now moved the Franchise Rights section back to this page because it discusses the film rights as well as TV rights and I presume that the rights likely includes the rights to use the characters elsewhere (comic books etc.) so it's more appropriate on this page. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

How did this article completely miss the character's genesis in BOOK form?[edit]

Didn't the character of Dr. Kildare originate in a series of novels by Max Brand? Why are the novels not mentioned at all in this article?

I did a quick Google and found several sites with information about the novels. Here's one:

I happened to have read a few of the Kildare books long ago, incidentally. They're quaint, but very readable. My understanding is that they were best-sellers in their time, which is why the character was later translated into so many other genres. But I believe that the character originated in the books. Hello, you are correct in your concern in my opinion. I thought the absence of a discussion of the original Max Brand stories and novels was a very material omission. I've extensively revised the article to take into account the Max Brand stories which pre-dated the films and on which all but two of the Kildare films were based.TheBlinkster (talk) 14:37, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ken Bald's drawing of Dr. Gillespie for comic strip[edit]

Although the Ken Bald article quotes comics historian Maurice Horn as saying that Ken Bald modeled the character of "Dr. Gillespie" in the comic strip after Raymond Massey, this seems to be disputed by other sources (such as the "Ask an Archivist" source I quoted) and by the fact that the Bald "Dr. Gillespie" drawing does not really resemble Massey. I therefore have relied on the source saying Bald made up his own drawing of Gillespie. If anyone has other sources contradicting this, feel free to bring them to the fore. WikiProject Television[edit]

This page is listed as being "of importance" to WikiProject Television. However, since the Dr. Kildare hit 1960s TV show now has its own page at Dr. Kildare (TV series), with most of the info on the show being over there, it seems like that's really the page that the WikiProject Television should care about, so I'm moving the banner over there.

Edited to add, the TV series page already was bannered by somebody else so I'm just leaving the television banner off this page. This page isn't really about the TV series.
