Maine university categories[edit]

Douglas Smith is a graduate of both the University of Maine in Orono and the University of Maine School of Law, which is several counties away in Portland. Despite their similar names, they're not the same institution. They're both part of the University of Maine System. If we remove the Category:University of Maine alumni category, we are removing a category that directly relates to the person's academic history.--TM 15:49, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at other category trees, for example the Category:University of California alumni, you'd see that this is common across Wikipedia. However, since an editor insists on pedantry, I created Category:University of Maine System alumni and moved the system categories out of Category:University of Maine alumni. IMO, this hurts Wikipedia, but it's a silly argument to have. I will readd the relevant category now.--TM 15:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
